Red shapes break the white hush, bold against frozen calm. Cold wind slips through snow-heavy pines, stirring whispers that ripple across the frozen lake. Quiet unfolds like light, clear, open, waiting.
As the first golden rays of the winter sun pierce through the chilly morning air, life in the park begins to awaken. Amidst the dew-kissed grass and the light mist lingering in the atmosphere, a street dog basks in the sun, embodying a picture of contentment and simplicity.
The dog, brown, finds its spot in the middle of the park. Nestled on a patch of soft grass, its body seems to sink comfortably into the earth, a perfect contrast to the crispness of the winter morning. The sun's warm embrace offers a reprieve from the cold night, turning the chilly morning into a tranquil retreat.
From the north side of Dalen, the powerlines stretch into a silent ocean of winter fog, disappearing toward the sheltered valley below. Morning light brushes the ridges of Telemark while the landscape drifts between clarity and cloud. Fun fact: The Dalen area often experiences strong temperature inversions, trapping cold air—and fog—deep in the valley while the hills stand clear above.

I captured this photo at a vineyard near Bristol, VA, showcasing the peaceful beauty of the winter landscape. The calm water perfectly reflected the sky and the rows of dormant grapevines, creating a serene scene. In the distance stands a solitary old cedar tree, likely an Eastern Red Cedar (Juniperus virginiana), a species native to the area. These trees can live for several hundred years, and judging by their size and robust form, this one could be pretty old, possibly over a century.
Like many vineyards in the region, the Nicewonder vineyard benefits from fertile soil and a favorable climate, yielding high-quality grapes for local wineries. Visiting during the off-season allowed me to admire the vineyard's quiet beauty without the hustle and bustle of harvest time.

I spend a lot of time with my iPod and I spend a lot of my time in my dark room also. For the past weeks I've come to realize that most of my music is about (wait for it...) Love. For those who know me this is not a surprise, I'm a huge fan of that four letter word even if sometimes I deny it. No matter if I have the worse luck with it, it makes everyone around me happy.
For the pass months however it completely turned my world upside down.
