Coming home after a walk with Zak, the sun was setting and it was lovely. Here we are on the boardwalk in Newhall Valley Country Park, just a short way from home.
And here's a bit of fun in musical form - first heard this years and years ago and it always makes me laugh - hope it makes you laugh too. You may have to endure an advert first... sorry !

On a more serious note (literally), here's a song recommended to me by Ashley - I know it ! It's beautiful Ashley - thank you !!!
Thanks as always for taking the time to look and listen and for your comments and faves. Happy rest of the week everyone !
It is always such a pleasure to be able to escape the city in the lowlands within a short time up to the wonderland of snowy mountains in the Black Forest. Lovely views over the Rhine valley and to the Vosges mountains are possible on clear days.
At first I admire always the wonderful old Beech trees if I am on the Schauinsland mountain. They are some hundred years old and I love them.
These trees look always a bit like dancing because they are formed by the strong Westwind.
The beech trees look so different every time - sometimes a heavy load of snow paints soft lines - another time the snow was melting a bit during the days (often 0 + 2 C around noon ). Than cold nights (-7 to -10 C) add a real icy look, like in this image.
By the way, these are actually 2 trees standing together.
I have taken many images of them - it is never, ever boring
to capture their beauty in winter.

Thanks for your kind visit, dear friends :-)
Wouldn't it be great to stop time just for one moment... to keep that for as long as you wish, then come back again and again for a while? Taken shortly before my previous pic, on a bridge over Plantsbrook. Zak and I saw the water tumbling over the rocks upstream, and we met some lovely people and their beautiful dogs too. We were happy there, Zak and I.

copyright: gerd kozik/ yarin asanth 2018. Hello dear Flickr friends, what you see is my kind of New York, because you know, I am a smalltown. Ahhh... better I am a smalltown man. If you live in such a wonderful smalltown like Diessenhofen in Switzerland you are once with the people and the nature. And... we have all here. 3 cars after another: Traffic jam. 50 people in town: Rush hour. The Lake: Our sea. So I send you some regards from this lovely place and from the Rhine. It's my road in summer by kayak on the way to Schaffhausen. I live on the border of Germany and Switzerland. Have a nice evening and please... Kilchurn Castle Loch Awe
Kilchurn Castle is a ruined structure on a rocky peninsula at the northeastern end of Loch Awe, in Argyll and Bute, Scotland. It was first constructed in the mid-15th century as the base of the Campbells of Glenorchy, who extended both the castle and their territory in the area over the next 150 years. After the Campbells became Earls of Breadalbane and moved to Taymouth Castle, Kilchurn fell out of use and was in ruins by 1770. It is now in the care of Historic Environment Scotland and is open to the public in summer.

Good morning dear Flickr friends,
behind every little hill there is a reward that keeps you in a good mood and gives you some recognition. Sometimes hard to get over it, but you will find different ways with your creativity and look... bang bang bang... somehow there was passion to find solutions, for the 7386 problems you have, haha. Stay cool, I have 8246, no matter to freak out. Some hills are better to climb as others. So I will take my first hill today with bacon and eggs. Have a good breakfast and a lovely Sunday my friends. The next hill is just around the corner... and the next weekend ;)
Love Yarin :)))

I loved the calm water that day, it is not very often the water is so calm and reflective, I put it down to the cold winter morning. The structure which I have yet to explore is remarkable for is age, I think the surrounding hills and mountains shelter it from the elements.
What were the technical challenges?
needed to submerge my tripod in the water so setting up was important as I didn't want to unsettle the calm water

Good evening dear friends,
I would like to explain the photo a little. The location is Stein am Rhein in Switzerland on a sunny day last week. The sky was blue and the sun was shining the whole day but it was really cold.
For the photo I was standing on a bridge. Behind me on the left side there is the historical old town of Stein am Rhein with wonderful old building and wall paintings. In front of you see the Rhine. This is the first place we call it the Rhine, because behind the little islands, which you see in front the photo, there is the end of the Lake Constance. On the right side you can see the Werd Island, where the monks live. You remember perhaps an other photo of me.
When I paddle in summer with kayak or SUP I normally come from this direction. Often I take a break on Werd-Island and paddle on under the long wooden bridge, you can see on the right side. Here at this place begins the flow of the Rhine and you get a really good speed down the Rhine on the way to Diessenhofen and to Schaffhausen. If you swim down the Rhine you are really fast and you have to decide early, where you want to get out, otherwise you had a long way back home. By kayak or SUP it is a wonderful experience about 50 km to paddle from Moos to Schaffhausen. Beautiful, really. But you need a second car at the end of the tour. With a SUP you can go back by train. I did it several times, and I slept very well in those nights...;)
I will show you more of my photos when I'm on a Rhine tour again in 2018. The camera is always in my dry bag or the little black suitcase you know from the Steckborn story...;)
Have a nice Sunday :)
See you.... Yarin
And please habe a look to the other side of the Rhine in b&w here...

-25 (with a windchill of -38 degrees) was the Canadian Challenge last weekend to endure the best, capricious Mother Nature had to throw at us. A unique opportunity to have the beach all to myself! Busily, I took as many shots as possible, happily singing to myself. However the longer I stayed, I noticed my voice getting higher and higher ;)

A prelude to the snow storms which have gripped the UK. They started in the East but have today arrived in the West. It's a complete white out today.
The Malvern Hills.
This time last year a friend and I were nailing down the specifics of our late January trip to Sax-Zim Bog in northern Minnesota. Our main goal was to see Great Gray Owls and that is one of the best places in the US to find them throughout the winter. When we arrived the weather was very mild and during the first two days we saw only one Great Gray in poor lighting. The last morning it was bitter cold. We had only about two hours to search. As we drove we saw a small group of cars much further down. I looked up to find this owl, perched in a tree above us, no other cars close by. We watched for several minutes as it flew from perch to perch, hunting small rodents. Finally it flew further into the woods and out of sight. After this one left we drove further down to find a second owl, which was where all the cars had been earlier. Always look up and never give up!

A Mandarin Duck that has mysteriously appeared in a pond in Northern Illinois is hanging around with a flock of Mallards.
The mandarin duck is a perching duck species found in East Asia. It is medium-sized, at 41–49 cm long with a 65–75 cm wingspan. It is closely related to the North American wood duck, the only other member of the genus Aix.

Hey boys and girls...;)
In my lunchbreak I could do some long exposures at the Rhine. One thing I really have to say about long exposure. You need time. So I felt more and more like a fisherman, waiting for the big fish. In the meantime you can read the newspaper, dream about the weekend, clean the bridge or you could also iron some laundry, change the winter tires of the car or you could finally make the tax return. Of course, it would be even more exciting to kiss a girl or a boy. Ahhh... for me a girl please. I think we should not exaggerate, so let‘s start with a princess. The white horses are scratching a bit. They want home. And indeed, it‘s starting to snow and I‘m holding this princess in my arms. I almost felt this exciting and overwhelming kiss, when suddenly the camera clicks and I woke up. Standing just like my tripod in the middle of the Rhine. I think I will probably have to ride home in my wet trousers. Really, I have to get those daydreams under control. On the other hand, they are so beautiful and you feel like 15 years old while reading, haha... ;)))
Have a nice Monday my friends. I have to go on with my work in the office of my palace...;)
Love Yarin
