Flying Medical Service in Tanzania, for the second issue of NEED magazine

an old photo repost, new toning

Masai men help loading medical equipment onto the plane, after doctors finished seeing patients at their imprivised clinic

In December 2007 I went to Tanzania to photograph activites of a small organisation called Flying Medical Service for NEED Magazine. It was one of the greatest adventures of my life so far. I spent six days flying with doctors on a small Cessna plane to remote Masai villages, wonderful memories. www.maciejdakowicz.com

really

.

" Wings Over Nicaragua Mission ( f/bk ) " Thankfully they are untiringly flying people of the Miskito area of North Eastern Nicaragua to Hospitals in the area.... When I see the photos and read the information of the patients who are airlifted out, I know they would not have survived if travelling by canoe or walking ....

.. It is great that one mission family are living in this area and that Clint Hanley is flying on a near daily basis, often many times per day & landing - as many ' bush pilots ' worldwide - on muddy, slippery natural air strips.... I know from reading, that much technical creativity is needed in the conditions often experienced.

Mrs Hanley, his wife also has a vital role as a nurse to the local people...

It's great to know that they are living and working in the area...bringing up their two children and serving this community.

from the website ... " Wings over Nicaragua Mission "

" We fly a 4-seat Cessna 172 airplane for emergency medical evacuation, supply and transport to the far reaches of the Rio Coco region, which is the North border of Nicaragua. We also cover the areas to the South, in a large grassland savanna (swamp). We are centrally located in La Tronquera, south of Waspam. The airplane was donated by an organization called Wings of Hope in St. Louis, MO. Wings of Hope also helps with maintenance and the continued operation of the airplane in Nicaragua. They operate in 42 countries, and we are proud to be able to help them here in Nicaragua. "

Many thanks to Wings over Nicaragua Mission for your work to assist daily the people of the Miskito area of North Eastern Nicaragua, C.America..

Esperanza ~ or Hope, is the name of one of the villages along the Nicaraguan border river named Rio Coco...

The far north eastern section of Nicaragua, Central America......bordering Honduras.

It is not far from Waspam, where this photo was taken....

Now, a well known charity called " Wings of Hope " are providing a new air ambulance pilot to the area.

Already on the scene and busy working, he will be taking over this coming month from the mission family of "Wings over Nicaragua Mission "

As they say, " When hope runs out, we get the Call "

The air ambulance service and dedication of the pilot saves countless lives each year ......

Each week, medevacs take place via plane in either minutes or an hour or so whereas via rutted track or canoe, it would take the patients days...

They usually could not even begin the journey, let alone survive it.....

Wings of Hope is a charity which was founded in 1962 by four St. Louis business executives. They were ordinary men who had a vision.

They formed the philosophies which are still upheld today......

Be totally non-sectarian

Have no politics

Give no regard to race

Be composed of volunteers who share the burden of providing only Humanitarian services.

Establish programs that work to alleviate the causes of the problem, help the poor to not need charity.

Accept no donations from the federal government

Work from the bottom up.

Information and the facility to donate can be found here.......
