Toe-winged Beetle (Ptilodactyla sp.). Ptilodactyla serricollis is the most common and widespread species in the genus, so it may be that species, but identification to species requires a microscope. Beetles in this genus are attracted to lights.

On the large size image I can count 32 birds. The area of reeds and cat tails was big and there were birds all the way from the tops of the reeds down to the ground (in other words there were birds below these birds that are not in the frame. There were thousands of blackbirds here. I don't know why there were so many females. I saw only a handfull of fellas.

Wing and a Prayer - when asked where shall we head the answer came in the form of dead birds wing, slowly directing us upwards. We all laughed at the time but now it plays on my mind!
The intermodal cleared and the vehicle train lit up so I lined up a nice telephoto only to have it switch from M2 to M1 and blow my composition! Time to wing it with a wide angle!

Golden-winged Warbler at Margaret O'Bryan's Bramble Hill Farm in Blue Grass, Virginia, 3 Jun 2015. Her farm straddles Virginia/West Virginia border. All these pix from her farm are from the West Virginia side. This Highland area of Virginia is breathtakingly beautiful and full of great birds. Warblers everywhere, flocks of American Goldfinches, and lots of RW Blackbirds. I was just in awe of the natural beauty.
