I was looking for a Chinese language pack for Windows for my family PC. I went to windowsupdates.microsoft.com/ and got this picture. Of course, the right URL is windowsupdate.microsoft.com/.
Didn't Steve Balmer say repeatedly that Linux was a cancer? I guess Microsoft's got cancer now.
[2005-05-31] This picture has been viewed 123 so far, way more than any of my photos. That alone amazes me. Yet nobody seems to care to leave a comment -- I guess it is not really a funny joke. I wonder how did they get here though. Because the "Windows" tag? Well, anyway, I am sending it to the Cream of the Crop.
Today I've been working on teacher laptops, and the 'Windows Update' screen is what I've been staring at pretty much all day. Some have been ok, some have been pigs. One was just filthy. Literally. Full of dog hair and all kinds of nastiness. Ah well.
The reason for the title relates to the painting of the Forth Bridge, which takes so long that there's a permanent crew doing it as by the time they've finished the other end is ready to be repainted again. This is the same - once I've worked through all the staff I think I'll be starting the whole roundabout again. *sighs*
Laura asked me to take a look at her computer tonight as it has been ballsing up installing Windows updates.
It seemed to go on alright when asked to and given a reboot, though it did install an updated Realtek driver for the NIC which just flat out didn't work.
It's all working now and hopefully it should stay that way!

Soooooo......um, yeah. I'm not sure what really happened here.
This is the screen of my LG Incite, an "alleged" Windows Mobile 6.1 device. I say alleged because, see, I've been having some weird problems with it lately that may have me calling to have it replaced but I thought it'd be worth a try to use the built-in Windows Update client. However, as usual, it never has any updates for me.
That's cool, I thought. How about I just pop onto the Internet with my device, go to the Windows Update site itself and see if I can, you know, get an update or updates for the OS (and/or phone, tho far less likely) direct from Microsoft.
This is the message I got.
And I get the whole 'this is a Windows "Mobile" device', not an actual desktop or laptop device so maybe it's incompatible with the traditional Windows Update site but again, I thought it'd be worth a try but....c'mon....

Why I hate Windows: formatted my sister's laptop computer and reinstalled Windows XP for her. These are just a few of the many updates that needed to be applied after Service Pack 2 - shocking.
My sister left for a gap-year in Vancouver, Canada on Tuesday - hopefully all will go well for her over there.

I always find it funny to see the number of updates needed for Windows XP. But after all those updates, the OS isn't bad at all. This was taken when we installed XP onto Camille MacBook earlier today.
If the virtual machine seems slow, check if VMware Tools is installed. Installation is only a mouse-click away under the Virtual Machine drop-down.
