“Every now and then one paints a picture that seems to have opened a door and serves as a stepping stone to other things.”

― Pablo Picasso

Blois, La France.

The city is located on the Loire River, halfway between Tours and Orléans. Stretching across both banks of Europe's last wild river, it demarcates and unites the Petite Beauce (right/north bank) and Sologne (left/south bank). The city of Blois is the heart of the Agglopolys urban community, which includes 43 municipalities.

This image captures the elegance of traditional Andalusian architecture, where brilliant white façades serve as the perfect canvas for playful red details — from dotted flowerpots to ornate lanterns. A subtle interplay of shadows and light adds dimension to the tranquil scene, emblematic of southern Spain’s village charm.

"We are all inventors, each sailing out on a voyage of discovery, guided each by a private chart, of which there is no duplicate. The world is all gates, all opportunities."

~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

Have a great new week my friends.

I do it with gates I have found in Blois, La France,

during a holiday years ago.

I created it with PSE '25 and emphasized the second gate.

Compositionally Challenged Week 10: Windows and Doors

These are some of the windows from our City Library. They are blue on this side, but the other sides of the building are different colours. I like the reflections on them and the man sitting inside. I had another shot where he was looking out, but it was a cropped version and I like the impact of the full wall of windows. Its a really odd looking building.

HWW to EVERYONE ...

There are 3 cell blocks at Alcatraz: A, B and C. They run parallel to one another. The corridor from which this image was taken is called" Broadway," and runs the length of cell blocks B and C. (This image will also be found in my Album: "Windows and Doors Photographs Series.")

Week #40 ~ Orton Effect

This week's theme is a technique called the Orton Effect. This process produces a glowing, vibrant and dreamy picture and is often used for landscapes.

Four years after Daniel Boone first set up a settlement in Kentucky, which the locals were not too thrilled about, he and his wife set up a tavern here for river travelers in this now vintage Kentucky community on the Ohio River.

Compositionally Challenged Week 10: Doors and Windows

When given a challenge to use a door or a window to frame a scene, I cannot help but think of Winton Hoch's famous closing shot of John Wayne as seen through a log cabin door in John Ford's movie The Searchers. My image above is not the stunning Monument Valley through a log cabin door by a legendary Hollywood cinematographer. Far from it. It is only by me with the limits of my bumbling skills of a Kentucky farm through a barn window. Instead of the charismatic John Wayne, there is only a red tractor. You gotta make do with what you got, right Mr. Hoch?

These old doors have been stripped of their layers of paint some of which still highlights their nooks and crannies. The rest of the building is still awaiting its restorer's hands.

Many of the old building of Hudson, NY are fine examples of early American architecture and restoration of them has been going on since the beginning of the 21st century. The town is rich in antique shops and art galleries.
