"Going Deep!": In full windup, Engineman Fred Mattison is about to launch a scoop of coal towards the front of the firebox on SRC #89. Since her firebox sits between the rear drivers, #89's firebox is more long than it is wide. Additionally, while not a true deckless cab, the seats for the engineer and fireman more or less sit right next to the firebox which in turn does not allow for much room on the deck for anyone but the individual feeding the fire out on the road.
while at RAPID I met Bathsheba Grossman again and she let me adopt her 3d printed glass sculpture. with some careful packing I transported it back from California in my luggage...in one piece.
from the left: print by Tugboat Printshop, totoro wind-up toy, aluminum foam, Bathsheba's sculpture, a shark jaw, print by Apak, and lamp prototype by Nervous System
These are some super neat Walking Wind-Up monster toys. I think they're 80s. They're plastic, and a larger 4.5 inches, card just marked China. They do other things too, the pinchers movie, the eyeballs pop out, the mouth opens. Their names are Sharp Horn (green lizard), Big Teeth (brwn bug pinchers), Horrid Eyes (blue mummy). As far as I've ever seen, this is the full set.
Kellerman Socius Motorrad #353
1936 - 1950. Made by the German firm of Kellerman in 3 different versions. An army version was made under the Nazi government with two Wehrmacht soldiers with detachable shoulder rifles .
After the war toy came back 'made in the US zone of Germany. With - understandably - civilian riders only. Even a sidecar version existed.
The motorcycle descibes a figure of 8 with the passenger bending over in the corners. The pillion passenger is often missing, like on this one .
Take a fanciful flight with this elegant WINDUP BIRD necklace by 19 Moons. A humming bird nestled into an antique BULOVA 17 ruby watch movement. This is set on silver and brass filigree and brass beaded drop. On the reverse side is a vintage watch dial with a tiny topaz Swarovski crystal at it's middle (A jewel in the heart of time!) The pendant hangs from a matching delicate textured brass chain, finished with a spring clasp. Totally captivating and unique! Keep this WINDUP bird next to your heart as a reminder of precious time.

(SOLD- I will make one more similar to this)
I saw this car on the road and followed it into a parking lot to take a picture of it. :P So the really cool thing is that the wind-up key actually turns when the car is moving! :)
A prototype of a cheap and robust laptop for young people. It will cost $100 with the aim of nrrowing the Information Technology gap between poorer developing countries and well-off information-rich people.
I made some lightweight cars for my wind up engine. On my current track (comprised op 2 loops from an old 9v set) it will do the following:
by itself: make one lap
with one car: almost a full lap
with two cars: little over half a lap
I have ordered a loop of this old style track as I beleive it will give it better traction than my 9v track does.
I experimented with different tires and these worked out best (offset tread pattern)
However, the tires are loose on the wheels. I think I may sand them to rough them up and give the tire more grip... maybe even a small dot of super glue just for maximum track adhesion
I'm hoping to make a clever mini layout based entirely on this engine and possibly adding some other wind-up fun to it as well!
