With the close of WWII now eminent, Willys-Overland began to consider the development of a civilian jeep that it could market beyond the scope of the militarized MB, leading to the first mass-production of the CJ-2A in 1945. First drafts of the CJ-2A included the CJ-1 and CJ-2 (AgriJeep), of which only 6 are known to have survived.

The CJ-2A resembled its military ancestor closely, with a tailgate and side mounted spare tire. However, there are certain characteristics of the CJ-2A that make it easier to distinguish from the Willys MB; most notably with regard to the headlights (which on the CJ-2A are larger and flush-mounted) and the grille (now a seven-slot grille as opposed to the nine-slot MB grille). The CJ-2A T-90 Transmission replaced the MB’s T-84, while the "Go-Devil" engine was kept intact - many of the early CJ-2As were equipped with surplus parts leftover from wartime production.

Pasture Green body with Autumn Yellow wheels (I think)

Early model, note the tool indents on the driver's side for axe and shovel (WW2).

Again, note the tool indentation on the driver's side.

The one thing I disliked about Spanish diecast brands when I first discovered them back in the late 1980's and early 90's was the judicious use of paper stickers. I loved the vehicle choices they modelled but eagerly ripped off said stickers which I felt took away their stock appearances.

Well those stickers are back in a small fashion, being used on the reissued Guisval Willys Jeep which i'm assuming is based on the CJ-2A? A truly ancient casting which appeared in the early 1970's and came back recently for their Reedicion series.

Quite a simple casting which has aged pretty well considering and no flimsy opening parts to easily break off either!

Found recently at Retro Toys in Sitges.

Mint and boxed.

Wheels which look very similar to ones used by both Majorette and RMZ City for their budget lines reminds you this Guisval Willys Jeep doesn't date from the 1970's. Its actually a brand new produced Reedicion reissue which they began bringing back from 2022 with varying degrees of quality and aged molds.

Thankfully this one has aged well and remains crisp and devoid of any obvious manufacturing flaws, it even features paper stickers which is something Guisval used to plaster on all of their releases back in the day!

Ordered directly from Guisval.

Mint and boxed.
