I do know that the two doors to the left were the workshop facilities of Kevin Stack Motors. Kevin was a successful short oval racer in the Seventies and Eighties who at one time competed in stock cars, hot rods and bangers. It was not unusual for him to be competing in every race on a Sunday afternoon fixture at nearby Smeatharpe Stadium or Newton Abbot. He certainly got through a lot of Farina's, the banger boys "weapon of choice" back then!

Buses now have Poppies in memory of those fallen heroes.

Church of St Andrew, Halberton Devon is located near the centre of the village which derives its name from a Saxon chief Haligbeort and ‘tun’, a farm settlement. It was once important enough to be a Hundred, an administrative division of a shire. which included the parishes of Halberton, Sampford Peverell and Willand, as well as parts of Uplowman and Burlescombe. Many of the farms date back to Doomsday or shortly after and Halberton is still largely a farming community. The village is divided into 2 parts, Higher Town and Lower Town, separated by the mill stream and pond which is fed by warm springs and never freezes. The Great Western railway once had a branch line running through Halberton to Tiverton, but this has now gone.
c1160 William FitzRobert gave the Saxon church and land to the monks of the order of St Augustine in Bristol
In 1259 a vicarage was endowed and a vicar appointed, separating the monks from the clergy
The all battlemented present church dating from the 14c is thought to have been constructed on the site of this earlier Saxon building from which the 1180 Norman font survives . In 1539 the last 2 monks left the priory following Henry VIII’s dissolution of the monasteries. Their land which passed to Bristol Cathedral became known as Halberton Dean (now ‘Lower Town’) and the Priory House in the High Street became a dwelling with new sandstone chimney stack www.flickr.com/gp/52219527@N00/11zojy0N1W
In 1553 there were 5 bells in the tower - there are now 6 - the latest dated 1841 is by Thomas Meers Founders
In 1576 there is mention of an organ (the present one was dedicated in 1929) & the first tower clock was placed in 1589 (replaced later by 3 large clocks to the south, west, and east, one dated 1861 ).
During the Civil War 1642 - 1651 soldiers camped in the churchyard and unnamed soldiers are buried here as is the Roundhead Commander Colonel John Were who died in 1658
Alterations continued in the 15c and the two storey vestry was added in 16c
The church was extensively restored and partially rebuilt in 1847-8 by John Hayward when the churchyard was enclosed. The chancel was restored in 1887. Restorations followed in 1893, 1899 & 1904

Central Travel GC03 AOX is a Scania K114IB4 with Irizar Intercentury coachwork. It was new to Ham, Flimwell in April 2003 with the registration PA52 HAM. Upon withdrawal by Hams in 2012 the registration PA52 HAM was transferred to a new vehicle and this coach passed to Spearings, Willand as GC03 AOX.
Cross Country HST with Class 43 No.43303 passes Willand,with the 06:11 Leeds to Plymouth service,on the 5th of August 2022.
Scania WA10GHB , Fleet 15662, was my drive out to Tiverton on the 1c route this morning.

Spearings Bedford YLQ Duple Dominant 2 VJP 601S at their Willand base on 25th April, 1992. It had been new to Ashtons of St. Helens.
In December 2017, 10500 SN65 ZHR is seen at Exeter Bus Station before operating the 19:25 1 service to Willand
Ford Cargo from Devon based Stoford Transport. When I was 15 I did a weeks work experience in the workshop for this mob,I kept getting told off for wandering round the yard taking photos of trucks.
22 years later and I'm still wandering round yards taking truck photos.

Some of the police cars used in ITV's THE BILL. Parked up at Action Vehicles Sales in Willand. They Have 2 BMW Area cars, 2 Astra IRVs and a Mercedes People carrier van. The cars had 2 sets of number pates they had the bill plate on first then over the top they had the real plate but some of the real plates had fallen off.
