Luzerne & Susquehanna's Tuesday Thursday job from Pittston to Wilkes Barre spots a tank car at the overgrown spur of Lion Brewery. Although fall has taken most of the shrubbery in the track, the scene still has a gritty industrial feel with some peak fall color along the ROW to boot.
E’ inafferrabile la tua assenza che mi appartiene
Siamo indivisibili
Siamo uguali e fragili
E siamo già così lontani
Con il gelo nella mente
Sto correndo verso te
Siamo nella stessa sorte
Che tagliente ci cambierà
Aspettiamo solo un segno
Un destino, un’eternità .......
Frozen flowers as they melt in the hot sun.....

Forever my favorite abandonment. This week is the anniversary of the demolition of the Hotel Sterling, a historical building from my hometown. Since the Preservation vs Demolition debate is still a hot topic in almost every community across the US, I've updated my blog with the offer to obtain the Kindle edition of "Welcome to the Zombie Hotel Sterling" for free, for a limited time. To get your copy, visit Welcome to the Zombie Hotel Sterling at Amazon.com.

I shot these in and around Wilkes-Barre, PA, in the winter of 2014, though I don't think I ever posted them here. Glad I found them on my blog because I can't find any other back up! Yikes!

Main-level seating in the old Shriners auditorium. An oculus skylight up above provides the illumination.
The renovation plan calls for removal of these seats and creation of open gathering spaces. I wonder how that will go, given the problems likely facing the state, country and world. The last attempt to renovate this temple started shortly before the world financial crisis of 2008-2009 and stalled out accordingly.
