Snake eels are seldom seen in the open. They spend most of their time buried in the substrate to ambush their preys, emerging mostly at night.

Beautiful, big, healthy brown Trout cruising the River Pang.

I had to sit and settle in the right position so that I could just click the shutter when they came out of cover. Any movement and they were gone!

Summer BBQing some beautiful wild salmon on a cedar plank with a mind-blasting maple glaze.

before: 3.14ct, 8.39x8.06x5.19mm. Commercial Roval. after: 2.19ct., 7.72 x 7.77 x 4.75mm. Custom Round . (ref:866) Recut on commission; stone owned by Wildfish Gems. www.wildfishgems.com/inc/sdetail/10826/18123

Indicolite Tourmaline 2.17ct., 5.36 x 11.74 x 4.03mm. Custom Rectangle

A complete recut job for Wildfish gems. This one lost about a carat because of the heavily bellied pavilion -- but it went from being a bland stone you'd probably pass over in a parcel to a flashy, sharp blue-green indicolite that will make a screaming custom piece.

Caught using a barbless fly, safely released.

"Bloom - New American Cuisine

THE DISH...

Bloom, like its sister restaurant Wildflower, serves New American Cuisine with a seasonally changing menu. Featuring classic American favorites with influences from European and Asian cuisines, the menu at Bloom showcases the freshest, most delicious ingredients resulting in something for every palate.

Bloom is a popular meeting spot for local business people and shoppers alike, offering a full bar, extensive wine list, and indoor and outdoor seating. The sleek bar featuring a cuvee wine keeper system allows guests to choose from over 75 wines by the glass daily. Bloom has consistently received the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence for its outstanding wine program. "

edit In January 2012 Fox Restaurants sold Bloom to a group of investors. The name is now Cask 63 and Jerry Tingle (formerly of the Wildfish Restaurant) is now the General Manager.

The two sequential photos in these posts were taken by my daughters whilst visiting Rogie Falls near Contin, Ross-shire in the Scottish Highlands. They both had the patience to wait and catch the moment wild salmon leapt towards the falls in order to continue their arduous journeys upstream to their ancestral spawning grounds. It's astonishing to watch them attempting a seemingly impossible task against such a torrent of water crashing over the falls.

Studio image of an exceptionally fine red spinel I had the honor of recutting for Wildfish Gems. The finished stone, pictured here, is 3.03ct., 8.03mm x 8.03mm x 6.40. Custom Square Cushion. That's only a .61ct loss; 17%. It was slow going, but so very much worth it. The stone has been sold; unfortunately, not to me...

In October 2018, the Sustainable Southeast Partnership convened for our 5th annual retreat on Prince of Wales Island. We built new workplans, identified areas to collaborate in 2019, discussed how the partnership is growing and reflected on over 6 years of relationship building and collaboration! We toured three SSP communities on the island: Kasaan, Hydaburg and Klawock.

These photographs were taken in Klawock. Klawock is a Tlingit community on Prince of Wales. We toured two local businesses (Wildfish Cannery and Skyanna Coffee), the local hatchery, the Vocational Tech center, Klawock Lake watershed, the totem park and the new veteran pole. We ate at Njord, a new local restaurant and enjoyed delicious meals prepared by Lily Pad. The dance group hosted us for a night with a delicious local dinner and some beautiful dancing.

We are grateful to work in and with Kasaan on reaching cultural, ecological and economic prosperity for our communities and region.
