Whynot, NC - The story of how Whynot was name is this: When townspeople were trying to come up with a name for the community..each time it began, "Why not (town name suggestion)." Finally, after numerous suggestions and no decision...someone wryly suggested, "Why not, Whynot?" Well, you can kinda figure out which name stuck.
