Couldn't stop myself... this just popped together in a "gee is this ever stupid" kinda moment... but it is so 1950 postcard I actually love it.
My apologies to anyone who expects deeper humour from me today...
hehehehehe

The above photo is Jeff Brown Pottery in the Randolph County community of Whynot, just east of Seagrove. Central North Carolina has lots of potters. Most are in Randolph, Moore, and Montgomery counties, but they extend to Chatham and Lee counties, also.
The most famous pottery center is the town of Seagrove, which is south of Asheboro. The clay is ideal. Pottery comes in all kinds of shapes and sizes with many glazes and colors.
I saw an article last week in the newspaper about a survey performed by the Randolph County Tourist Board. It showed that a large number of people drive from New York to buy pottery. I would have thought the number one draw in Randolph County for people from New York was the NC Zoo.

Tammy WhyNOT kann auch fotografieren. Hier sehen wir Monique (42) in einem bezaubernen Lackkleid.
Als kleines Kontrastmittel wurde ihr ein lilafarbenes Tuch um die Hüfte gelegt.
I've copied and pasted an essay on this photo several times. Should I explain what my point is? Should I assume no one will get it? Should I care if no one gets it? Not that many will see it, no doubt, but for those that do, this is actually a new type of photo for me. Not just the processing, which I usually never do (I prefer honest photos of real people), but the message. I don't often instill messages in my photos.
As a woman, society expects a lot of different things from me. I'm to look a certain way, act a certain way, be interested in certain things, laugh at certain jokes, be this sensitive and this demanding of those around me. I should care whether my shoes match my handbag, and what color my nails are painted (egads - what if they're not painted at all?!?) I should care what size I am, and what color my eyes are.
And what happens if I don’t strive every day to meet these expectations? …well, then what? I've been pondering what happens, here. In this new city I call home, I've noticed that there are a lot of people who look exactly the same, but in different ways. Instead of looking like the people in Mademoiselle, they look like the people in Rolling Stone. Look at me, I'm hip and I go against the norm. I have tattoos and piercings and I don’t buy into what society tells me to be… except, they are buying into what society tells them to be… just a totally different society.
All this leads me to thinking about the base needs of the human animal. We all need to feel like we’re part of something. Like there is a point to all this, no matter how crass that point is. No matter how superficial. We yearn for someone to tell us that we matter, even if we only matter because of how pretty we are, or how hip we are, or how smart we are, or how ambivalent. We yearn to have meaning, whatever that meaning is.
Where am I going with this? I’m not sure. I sat down to make a photo to express how frustrating it is to be a woman in modern society. To express how I feel about what I’ve been handed, and yet, it’s ironic that while I was struggling to go against one crowd, I fell into the fold of another crowd. It was inescapable, because like every human creature, I yearn to feel like I’m accepted by someone. To feel part of something.
So, like Snow White, who is forever destined to eat the poisoned apple, so am I fated to an endless feast of conformity. It’s a modern day fairy tale.
What is my point? I don’t know. I’m only speaking into the vast nothingness, into myself and back again. Trying to put a shape to this thing called life.
The Queen, at home, went in front of the glass and said --
"Looking-glass, Looking-glass, on the wall,
Who in this land is the fairest of all?"
then it answered as before --
"Oh, Queen, thou art fairest of all I see,
But over the hills, where the seven dwarfs dwell,
Snow-white is still alive and well,
And none is so fair as she."
When she heard the glass speak thus she trembled and shook with rage. "Snow-white shall die," she cried, "even if it costs me my life!"
Thereupon she went into a quite secret, lonely room, where no one ever came, and there she made a very poisonous apple. Outside it looked pretty, white with a red cheek, so that everyone who saw it longed for it; but whoever ate a piece of it must surely die.
