A Fiddler Crab hangs on for dear life. But it only took this White Ibis a few minutes to shake it loose, dismember and devour it.

If there is one place that is famous in the Seine-Maritime region, it is Saint-Georges de Boscherville Abbey. Its Romanesque style and authentic setting give it a very special charm. It is the result of a perfect blend of nature, art and history. Its roots are ancient, and it was built on a sacred site whose origin dates back to Gallo-Roman times.

White-winged Doves (Zenaida asiatica) are semi-tropical doves whose native range extends from the southwestern U.S. through Mexico and Central America, into parts of western South America, and to some Caribbean islands. They are also residents in Florida, where they were introduced. The majority of White-winged Doves are seasonally migratory. They overwinter in Mexico and Central America and come to the southwestern United States and northern Mexico in April to breed, departing again in September. Some will overwinter in their breeding range, especially in residential areas where food remains available. In the southern parts of their range, they are year-round residents. There are twelve subspecies of White-winged Doves. Western or Desert White-winged Doves (Zenaida asiatica mearnsii) and Eastern White-winged Doves (Zenaida asiatica asiatica) are the most numerous and widely distributed subspecies.
White-winged Doves feed on a variety of seeds, grain, and fruit that vary depending on their range and seasonal availability. They consume seeds and fruits of wild trees, grasses, and herbaceous plants, as well as those of ornamental cultivars. Domestic grain crops including sunflower, barley, sesame, sorghum, wheat, corn, and safflower are also an important food source in many parts of White-winged Dove’s range. To supplement their seed-based diet, White-winged Doves will also ingest shells of small snails and other gastropods, or bits of bone extracted from raptor pellets or mammal feces. The bones and shell are an important source of calcium for the doves, necessary for eggshell and crop milk production.

The village of Sferracavallo is an ancient fishing village, whose name derives from the ancient custom of "unshoeing" the horses before crossing the shallow waters of the area.
Facing the small port of Sferracavallo, there isn't a single historical building of particular importance, but rather a series of sailors' houses and small buildings that give the place its fishing village charm.
The area is characterized by an authentic atmosphere and local traditions linked to the sea, rather than by the presence of monuments of great architectural value.
The Edison Next Italian Olympic Class Championship took place in Palermo recently, kicking off with a first day of racing involving 399 sailors from 20 nations.
Seven race courses spread across Mondello, Addaura, Sferracavallo, and Isola delle Femmine, where sailboats from various classes filled the coastline and coastline, offering a spectacle of high-level sporting and technical excellence.

Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.
My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.
He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound’s the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.
The woods are lovely, dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

Did you forget to call me?
Or baby, did you lose my number?
Don't tell me that you're sorry
Whose covers are you sleeping under?
I was just across the street
And I just wanted to reach out
Thinking we could get together
And I didn't mean to stalk you
But I saw that guy you talked to
Everybody knows I'm jealous
And I know it's not all about me
I know that you don't come easily
But you reach for the stars if it's worth it
If you're gonna act like we're just friends
Throw away the messages I sent
If you're playing a game, then it's working
Did you forget to call me?
Or baby, did you lose my number?
(Did you lose my number?)
Don't tell me that you're sorry
Whose covers are you sleeping under?
You know I just want someone that I can love
Someone that I can love
Someone that I can love
Can love
Did you forget to call me?
Or baby, did you lose my number?

Japanese gardens are traditional gardens whose designs are accompanied by Japanese aesthetics and philosophical ideas, avoid artificial ornamentation, and highlight the natural landscape. Plants and worn, aged materials are generally used by Japanese garden designers to suggest an ancient and faraway natural landscape, and to express the fragility of existence as well as time's unstoppable advance. Ancient Japanese art inspired past garden designers. By the Edo period, the Japanese garden had its own distinct appearance.
The Auburn Botanic Gardens are a botanical garden located in Auburn (a suburb of Sydney), New South Wales, Australia. It was established in 1977 and covers an area of 9.7 hectares. There are two lakes, a waterfall and bridges. Duck River winds through the garden. The garden is maintained by Cumberland Council. It is open daily, and there is a small entry fee on weekends. The Japanese gardens, which have hosted couples from overseas, are one of the main attractions. 12554
Sonnet 131
Thou art as tyrannous, so as thou art
As those whose beauties proudly make them cruel;
For well thou know`st to my dear doting heart
Thou art the fairest and most precious jewel.
Yet, in good faith, some say that thee behold
Thy face hath not the power to make love groan,
To say they err I dare not be so bold,
Although I swear it to myself alone.
And, to be sure that is not false I swear
A thousand groans, but thinking on thy face
One on another`s neck, do witness bear
Thy black is fairest in my judgment`s place.
In nothing art thou black save in thy deeds,
And thence this slander, as I think, proceeds.
William Shakespeare

Route whose itinerary runs around the Nordic ski slopes of Llanos del Hospital in the Benasque Valley. The route begins in the Pllan del Hospital, passing through beautiful places such as the Plan de Estan and the Plan de la Besurta to finally reach the spectacular Plan d'Aiguallut with magnificent views of the Aneto peak. It involves walking through a part of what is known as the Camino dels Aranesos, which originally linked the Hospital Plan with the Aran Valley.
The route is divided into three sections, a first very short and easy section to Plan de l'Estan, a second section that is also very simple to Besurta and a final section that is somewhat more demanding although accessible to any hiker accustomed to the mountains until the Forau d'Aiguallut.
A beautiful common bird whose calls are often heard in the country now in the breeding season. After this season the bird is quite impossible to sight. The birds are quiet and prefer thick bush, so sighting would be a rare thing in the off-season.
On this day, he came atop this perch and started making calls for almost 30 mins. That is the preferred mode for the bird - get on an open perch 3-4 feet high and call. Then he started preening himself giving me some 30 mins of excellent shots. I finally left leaving him on the perch after taking around 200 shots and realizing that he is likely to fly the opposite way.
Thanks in advance for your views and feedback.
At 120 meters by 120 meters, Plaza Mayor is one of the largest urban squares in the Americas.
It is paved with huge rounded stones and surrounded by magnificent colonial structures and a charmingly simple parish church.
Only a small Mudejar fountain in the middle of the square, which has supplied water to the inhabitants of the village for almost four centuries, breaks the vastness of the space. Unlike most Colombian cities whose main square is named after historical heroes, this is traditionally and firmly called Plaza Mayor.
I don't know whose side I'm on.

Uvac River for many centuries meandering in the rocks, was drilled canyon, whose limestone walls reach up to 350 meters. After the construction of the dam in 1979 and the damming up of water, a tank similar to a winding snake was created.
In 1994, a nature reserve was created along the flooded canyon to protect the population of the griffon vulture. Initially, there were only 7 pairs of this bird, currently their colony numbers about 300 individuals. A griffon vulture is a rare species with a wingspan of up to 3 meters and a weight of up to 11 kg.

W roku 1994 wzdłuż zalanego kanionu utworzono rezerwat przyrody, aby chronić populację występującego tam sępa płowego. Początkowo było tylko 7 par tego ptaka, obecnie ich kolonia liczy około 300 osobników. Sęp płowy to rzadki gatunek, którego rozpiętość skrzydeł dochodzi do 3 metrów, a waga do 11 kg.

Eventually police finally closed him down after years of ignoring the obvious. Unusual, intriguing, memorable! The Cannonball tree is one of my favorite tropical trees with sea-anemone-like flowers whose sweet enticing fragrance can be enjoyed a field away. It has large hard brown fruit that clang like Cannonballs in the tropical forest at night. The flowers don't erupt on the upper branches either but on root-like branches around the base of the trunk! At night the flowers are particularly aromatic to attract swift-flying pollinators including bats. This particular Cannonball tree was collected in 1913 at Jamaica’s Hope Gardens and has flourished here at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden since it was planted in 1938.
According to textual records, Couroupita guianensis trees have been growing in India for at least 3,000 years, where it is so revered that it is often found growing at religious temples. It's possible that it is native to India as well. Part of the Lecythidaceae family, it grows up to 25m (82ft) in height. The majority of Cannonball trees that grow outside their natural environment were planted as botanical curiosities. Their large orange, scarlet and pink flowers form bunches that measure up to 3m in length. The large spherical, woody fruits, which range from 15 to 24cm in diameter, each contain up to 300 seeds.

The Illinois Central whose slogan was the "Main Line of Mid-America" ran from Chicago to New Orleans on an odd north-south main line. Here we see a pair of Illinois Central Deathstar SD70s leading CN Q116 bound for Flat Rock, MI rolling under the Coal Tower in Lansing, MI. With clouds rolling in fast this would be the only location this pair would be seen in decent light.
Mkinvartsveri is an extinct volcano whose last eruption is supposed to have happened in the Middle Pleistocene, sometime between 2,580,000 and 11,700 years ago.
A number of glaciers come down from it, including Suatisi, Mna, Ortsveri, and Devdaraki. The fastest river in Georgia, the Tergi, has its source there as well.
Kazbegi is especially attractive for mountaineers and rock climbers, but you don’t have to be a professional athlete to get to it's top. What you do need is good physical preparedness, a well-chosen time, the right equipment and most of all - a professional guide.
There are two classic routes climbing up to the top of Kazbegi and the best time for ascending is from the second half of summer to the middle of September, when the snow cover is less and the weather is mostly sunny.
Once you have reached the peak, standing above the clouds in an infinite expanse, you will gaze out over a breathtaking view that will make all of the sweat and aches worth it.
It is thought to have been first built circa 1627 as this date is carved on part of the framework. This is the earliest date to be found on any windmill in the British Isles. It should be remembered that such a structure would have had to have frequent repairs made to it, so the mill may predate 1627. It was dendrochronologically dated in 2004 by Dr. Martin Bridge of the Oxford Dendrochronology Laboratory when the oldest pieces in the buck were found to be from trees felled in winter 1595/96 and spring 1597. The 'new' crown tree was made from a tree that felled in spring 1670, while the quarter bars of the trestle were from trees felled between 1824 and 1826, so like most mills, it is a mix of old timbers variously recycled or hanging on from their original use.
For nearly three hundred years grain grown in the two adjoining villages was ground at the mill into flour. In 1874 the mill was bought by Adelbert Wellington Brownlow Cust, 3rd Earl Brownlow who owned the nearby Ashridge Estate. He subsequently left it to a local farmer, who ran a successful milling business from the mill.
In 1902 the mill was seriously damaged during an enormous gale, damaging it beyond the price of economic repair. Around 1922 the derelict ruined mill was bought from the Ashridge Estate by a farmer whose land was close to the mill. In 1937 he donated it to the National Trust. However, it was not until 1963 that a band of volunteers began to carry out renovations at their own expense. The mill appeared in an episode of The Champions titled The Invisible Man which was filmed in 1967.[2] In 1970, after an interlude of 68 years, the mill once again ground corn.

Legendary composer Burt Bacharach, whose hits include “I’ll Never Fall in Love Again,” “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head” and “I Say a Little Prayer,” has died. He was 94.
in memory of one of my favorite songs :
Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head
Raindrops are falling on my head
And just like the guy whose feet are too big for his bed
Nothing seems to fit
Those raindrops are falling on my head, they keep falling
So I just did me some talking to the sun
And I said I didn't like the way he got things done
Sleeping on the job
Those raindrops are falling on my head, they keep falling
But there's one thing I know
The blues they send to meet me
Won't defeat me, it won't be long
Till happiness steps up to greet me....
