The parkview campus' main entrance. Built in 2003 this is a ultra-modern state-of-the art facility. The classrooms and the labs are top-notch equipped with the latest technology has to offer.
The building’s “lighted industrial” design theme reflects its purpose as an engineering teaching facility. The labs and corridors feature exposed concrete floors and ceilings showing the true engineering and construction of the building. Building materials include brick/precast, burnished block, terrazzo, and similar long life-cycle materials.

This G block in ElmWood Apartments was my port-of-entry to the Western Michigan University. The friends I made at that time remained as friends even today. Late 2003 was a great time for everybody.

The College of Engineering and Applied Sciences at the heart of Western Michigan University’s 265-acre Parkview Campus is the University’s largest building. It serves as home to nine engineering departments and 3,000 students, and anchors the City of Kalamazoo’s new Business and Technology Research Park, a collaboration between the University, the City and many corporations.

Three image infrared HDR. Canon A590 IS, Hoya R72 infrared filter, CHDK running for autobracketing and to create raw files. The DNG files were developed in Adobe Camera Raw; they were merged into an HDR using Dynamic Photo-HDR. The HDR was tonemapped in PSCS5; additional adjustment layers made it what it is.
This photo is completely unedited. No cropping, color adjustment, or brightness adjustment, etc. Just converted from RAW to JPEG

This was such fantastic installation - I really enjoyed it, it seemed the most "alive", constantly changing, depending on your point of view... and since we spent so much time exploring it, looking thru it I was able to discover yet another layer...
Asylum Lake, Kalamazoo, Michigan. She did her best to pose in front of the setting sun, but I couldn't get her to understand about the trees in the way.
I impulsively bought a Hasselblad and it turns out it has some issues. That's what I get for not thinking things through. heh. I'm sending it back tomorrow and hopefully finding one in working order to purchase. The film back on this one was broken and wouldn't wind the film correctly, as you can see in the overlap.
I scanned these negs on my friend's Epson 3170 and they looked perfect---so it must be my scanner, as I've always thought, that has the issue.

A beautiful day in Columbia, South Carolina for some D1 College Rugby. Under the shadows of Williams-Brice Stadium, Western Michigan, Clemson and South Carolina played some great rugby. Props to the Gamecocks as the A-Side defeated Clemson's A-Side Saturday.

Chief Mashipinashiwish (= Bad Bird) of the Potawatomis in 1821 (Treaty of Chicago) and in 1832 (Treaty with the Potawatomi) ceded the land to the US on which Kekalamazoo, later called Kalamazoo, of course, was to be founded. The town was incorporated in 1838 - just as the Potawatomi were beginning the forced, terrible Trail of Death from northern Indiana to the Far West, which killed so many of them; the Potawatomi of Kalamazoo followed in 1840.
The town soon became an important Michigan city. Western Michigan University was established here in 1903 by Dwight Waldo, at first as a 'normal' or Teachers College. It quickly grew into a major institution of higher learning.
Annually each May, the University for three days hosts the International Congress of Medieval Studies (since 1962) which today draws around 3000 medieval scholars from all over the world. It sells coffee mugs to convince colleagues that they've been on more than a lark; they bear the motto: "Yes! there really is a Kalamazoo".
The campus is a hospitable place with pleasant ponds (and swans), large expanses of lawn and meadow, grasslands and woods in the shade of which grow thousands of trilliums. The flowering shrubs and trees in Spring are a delight to behold - although in some years whitened by a sudden snowstorm even in early May. This year the temperatures were pleasant for lecturing, the crabapples in full blossom, and the sky as blue as can be; and in the distance the red-winged blackbird could be heard, trilling its high song.
And yes, I gave a paper, too, on travel to the Orient in the fifteenth century.

Since I originally posted this image back in January we were able to connect with the photographer who did this portrait for us back in 1976 while we were at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo.
Thanks very much, Wil. We remain very pleased we have this wonderful picture even though we both look slightly older than the two young people you photographed years ago.

The hallowed hall of the CEAS. Its been long since I was in my department with my friends. WMU's fall semester was about to start in a couple of days. I met a few old friends who were on a similar trip.
The facility is a wireless computing environment, but also includes extensive hard wiring for high-end computing needs and interactive instruction.

And then you work so hard til ya hair turn gray
Let me tell you about life, and bout the way it is
You see we live by the gun, so we die by the gun's kids

They wonder how I live, with five shots
