It is not appreciated nowadays but back in the days of wandering cowboys, a black man was much more likely to be a cowboy than a white man. A third of all cowboys were black when black men made up roughly ten percent of the total U.S. male population. So if you were a black man, the chances of you being a cowboy was considerably higher than if you were a white man.
I grew up on Gunsmoke, Bonanza, and Spaghetti Westerns. There were not many blacks in those flicks.

I'm neither a typical collector of stamps, nor a stamp dealer. I'm only a stamp photograph. I'm fascinated of the fine close-up structures which are hidden in this small stamp-pictures. Please don't ask of the worth of these stamps - the most ones have a worth of a few cents or still less.
By the way, I wanna say thank you to all flickr users who have sent me stamps! Great! Thank you! Someone sent me 3 or 5 stamps, another one sent me more than 20 stamps in a letter. It's everytime a great surprise for me and I'm everytime happy to get letters with stamps inside from you!

(Selon l'AI incluse dans l'audioguide de cette exposition, c'est "The Heller Group LLC, New-York" qui serait propriétaire de la version jaune. Selon d'autres sources, elle appartiendrait à la collection de Eli et Edythe Broad mais on lit aussi que cette collection possède plutôt la version bleue !)
En 1994, ...Jeff Koons débute ....d'immenses sculptures reproduisant des ballons de baudruche noués en forme d'animaux dont cing Balloon Dogs (bleu, magenta, orange, rouge et jaune) aux surfaces brillantes et réfléchissantes. ...Ces volumes d'acier approchent la tonne mais donnent une illusion de légèreté inhérente au souffle censé les habiter.... Il existe cinq versions de cette œuvre de couleurs différentes (bleu, magenta, jaune, orange et rouge). Celle de couleur magenta appartient à la Pinault Collection qui l'expose régulièrement à Paris ou a Venise.

Du 17 octobre 2024 au 24 février 2025, la Fondation présente « Pop Forever, Tom Wesselmann &… » une exposition consacrée au Pop Art, l’un des mouvements artistiques majeurs des années 1960 dont la présence n’a cessé, jusqu’à aujourd’hui, de s’affirmer sur tous les continents et pour toutes les générations.
L’exposition est centrée autour de Tom Wesselmann (1931-2004), une des figures de proue du mouvement, au travers d’une sélection de 150 peintures et œuvres de divers matériaux. Elle regroupe, en outre, 70 œuvres de 35 artistes de générations et nationalités différentes qui partagent une sensibilité « Pop », allant de ses racines dadaïstes à ses prolongements contemporains, des années 1920 à nos jours.

... Sur des unes datant de la dynastie Han (206 av J.C-220), l'artiste a apposé le logo Coca-Cola. L'inscription défigure le vestige archéologique, suggérant une agression de la culture traditionnelle par la globalisation. .... (Extrait du cartel)
En peignant un symbole du capitalisme mondial sur un vase antique, Ai Weiwei confronte le passé culturel de la Chine et son industrialisation rapide, où le patrimoine est souvent sacrifié au profit du développement économique (NDLR) comme par exemple lors de la destruction des quartiers anciens de Beijing (les Hutong.....) dans les années 1980-2010.
Ai Weiwei a considéré dans cette exposition comme un artiste inspiré par le Pop Art alors qu'il est un artiste conceptuel contestataire, ce qui n'était pas le cas des artistes rattachés à ce mouvement esthétique typiquement américain. C'est une des critiques qu'on peut faire à cette exposition "attrape tout".
