On the last autumn evening, when the last rays of the sun were shining, in the middle of the Ruhr district of Bochum Hordel I made this beautiful autumn picture when I returned from my autumn walk. While a lot of nature is destroyed in Bavaria, a lot of trees are planted in the Ruhr area, and many natural oasis of well-being are created. Have fun viewing.

On our back yard fence, this leaf, and the vine it's attached to, have survived the elements, including sun, heavy rain and winds, for months. Even in a very stiff wind, when other dried leaves on the fence are fluttering, it does not move.
Friends, I expected to 'graduate' from Planet Earth this month. But, due to a very surprising development, that has changed. I now have at least a few more weeks, possibly more, here in this body. Quite a roller coaster ride. I will continue to post photos on Flickr and on Facebook as long as I am able to.
Thank you very much for your kind interest in and support of my photography, and well-being. I am grateful. ♥

A rainforest is an area of tall, mostly evergreen trees and a high amount of rainfall. Rainforests are Earth’s oldest living ecosystems, with some surviving in their present form for at least 70 million years. They are incredibly diverse and complex, home to more than half of the world’s plant and animal species—even though they cover just 6% of Earth’s surface. This makes rainforests astoundingly dense with flora and fauna. Rainforests’ rich biodiversity is incredibly important to our well-being and the well-being of our planet.

This mini-series explores alon-ness (vis-a-vis, or not, loneliness), which is usually hard to attain in a society constantly on the move, time-poor, too busy, and always encouraging group-think and sharing. Subsequently, alon-ness often highlights the value of solitude.
Solitude enhances self-awareness, recollection, and connection to self. In addition, dependent on circumstances, to nature, as illustrated here at the beach with the beautiful ocean and cloudscape.
In turn, this informs one’s well-being and life integrity to get along at all times, despite the usual difficulties and challenges.
Hope you enjoy the first pic on this theme, best! Ardan.

Solitude enhances self-awareness and connection to self, and dependent again on circumstances, to nature, as illustrated here in the open, which is also all about one's well-being and life integrity.
But, of course, nature is not just 'out the window' as "the environment", it is inside the room as well, its everywhere as humans are relational beings within nature.
Connectiveness to self and/or nature can be embraced through many techniques of thinking and being. One good example is through meditation, e.g. vipassana mediation (as available to check out on the net).
Please share other techniques and ways you'd like to mention in the comments.

A beautiful Lioness we spotted while on a 2023 photo safari in the Serengeti National Park, Tanzania. She stopped her search for prey just long enough to show me those eyes.
In the savannas of Africa, female lions play a crucial and dynamic role in their familial groups, shaping the social structure and bearing the responsibility for the pride’s survival. Contrary to some common misconceptions, lion prides operate within a matriarchal social structure, where females hold the key roles in decision-making and coordination.
Lionesses are the primary hunters within the pride. Their exceptional teamwork and strategic approach to hunting are essential for the pride’s survival and well-being. Together, they deploy strategic hunting techniques, such as coordinated flanking and ambushing, to outwit their prey. Their synchronized efforts increase the likelihood of a successful hunt to secure food for the entire pride.
Male lions are typically responsible for protecting their pride from other males. However, the females play a vital role in defending the pride’s territory against threats such as leopards, hyenas, neighboring prides, and occasionally other males. The survival of a pride often hinges on the lionesses’ ability to protect their territory.
The lionesses’ strong maternal instincts are at the foundation of the pride’s social bonds. As a group, they are responsible for raising and nurturing the cubs. They teach essential survival skills, including hunting techniques and social behaviors, which ensure the continuity of the pride’s legacy. The pride communicates through vocalizations and body language, fostering a strong sense of community. The bonds formed among females contribute to the overall success and stability of the group.
In the lion pride, females emerge as the unsung heroes, weaving together the threads of survival, protection, and legacy. Their role as huntresses, defenders, nurturers, and leaders is integral to the pride’s success.

... Our individual well-being is intimately connected both with that of all others and with the environment within which we live.... E Lucevan El Stelle (Tosca) - embedded in my self written poem:
True love requires the great art of daring to dream awake with open eyes, to use the gentle wings of the imagination as a brush and the grey and desolate façades and streets as a canvas to clothe them anew with bright colours, to give them beautiful, gentle forms - to float with their lightness, to float a dark night on silver shining clouds under the bluish shimmering warm moonlight. To reach places and labyrinths where space and time dissolve.
However, true love is not readily accessible. She is the little sister of the soulless fear-demon, who stands protectively in front of her when an eager soul comes too close to her little sister.
"As proof of your true desire, I demand of you the courage - you must summon to prove your worthiness" she thunders menacingly. As proof she demands fearless, unconditional and selfless willingness to run with passion into her open knives. She invites you to an unequal duel on a cold and dark stage of a brutal dramaturgy where you meet your merciless antagonist who will not forgive any mistake or naivety. She is powerful, prosecutor and judge at the same time.
And if you lose the bitter fight, she will ask you as punishment in a mild but authoritative voice to turn your back on her and close your eyes. Then she will whisper lovingly and reassuringly "I won't kill you right away, I'll let your life escape slowly" and in the same breath ram a knife into your back, piercing your heart.
The deep pain pierces the whole soul
The limbs slacken, the body is one with the earth
The fear-demon applauds... and shouts in a rush of joy “Coda!!!!” (Final act in opera)
The pupils close with dignity like a heavy dark blood-red curtain after a stage performance
The song, conducted by memory, sung by the pain of lost love resounds deeply melancholy to pay its last respects.
Now you are a passive spectator of your own tragedy, listening to a music that was staged just for you:
Bes
"And the stars were shining
And the earth was smelling
The orchard gate creaked
And a footstep grazed the sand
She entered, fragrant
She fell into my arms
Oh, sweet kisses, oh, languid caresses
While trembling, I stripped the beautiful form of its veils!
My dream of love has vanished forever
The hour has passed and I die in despair!
And I have never loved life so much before!"

Good Saturday morning everyone, and hoping everyone stay safe and well and has a fabulous weekend.
Here is one from yesterday and a very exciting series for me as well, being able to spend some time with this magnificent bird of prey, who we very rarely see, thanks to my friend and shooting partner ............. again.
Thanks for visiting everyone, very much appreciated indeed.
Last night I went to see A Complete Unknown, the new Bob Dylan Biopic. I'd heard wonderful things about this movie and it did not disappoint. I adored it. The sherpa and I were the only ones in the cinema which meant that I could sing very loudly and applaud all the songs. I felt like part of his audience. The opening scene is one where Bob Dylan goes to meet his hero Woody Guthrie who lay very sick in a New Jersey hospital. He plays him a song called "Song to Woody", written in 1962. The last couplet in the following verse really stood out to me.
Hey, hey Woody Guthrie, I wrote you a song
'Bout a funny ol' world that's a-comin' along
Seems sick and it's hungry, it's tired and it's torn
It looks like it's a-dyin' and it's hardly been born
I leaned across to the Sherpa and remarked how fitting those last two lines feel for our times. In fact it was a thought that surfaced often while listening to Dylan’s songs throughout the movie. Which brings me back to this image in Thailand, and, really, the entire trip.
The simplicity of island life stood in contrast to the complexities and horrors of the outside world. Life there may not be easy, (it looked really hard to me!) but everyone has a role—the women, the men, even the children—and there’s a quiet dignity in that. They don’t have much, living in humble wooden shelters, often pieced together from large bits of driftwood. Yet, there’s a warmth that comes from their sense of community.
Most people on the island know one another, and life is built on connection and mutual support. They help each other, woven together by shared purpose rather than individual ambition. I think that’s one of the most profound things we’ve lost in many parts of the world, the shift from community to self-interest, from collective well-being to personal gain.
Nothing could be more evident than what is happening in the USA.
Anyway, do you self a favour and see the movie and forgive my rambling!
A wetland is land where water is above, at or near the surface near most years. These are transitional areas between terrestrial and aquatic swamps, sloughs and ponds, unvegetated flats and bogs. All these types of wetlands, with the exception of bogs, are found in the Everglades.
Wetlands are essential to human well-being as they allow water to seep into underground aquifiers which provide the fresh drinking water we need. Wetlands help prevent flooding and erosion by slowing surface run-off while acting as a natural treatment plant to filter pollutants in the water supply. They also provide shelter and food for many insects, birds, fish and other animals. Two-thirds of all threatened and endangered wildlife species in the United States live in a wetland eco-system. Wetlands are crucial for migratory birds too.
In this family Fynn is responsible for the well-being of the tomatoes which means that he spends a lot of time with them, watches over them and I suppose he talks to them too. He does that every year and is quite successful. Last year we had a fantastic tomato harvest.
I add another capture in the comments.

WISE ENOUGH - LAMB
As the sun moves slowly down
towards the end of day
the golden hour lights ancient walls
the cold rough stone is warmed
and embers glow on ashen grey
the patterns from the latticed windows
paint an abstract randomly
marking time before the soft nightfall
I capture mellow yellow momentarily
Inside is cool and dark with memories
tranquil feelings still my mind
outside the light seems brighter somehow
while darker shadows fall behind
the cemetery is hushed with whispers
from places we will someday go
for now I am alive and joyful
I feel no sense of loss or woe
my footsteps echo on the flagstones
my hands caress the smooth and burnished wood
where other hands once did the same
and other feet trod where I stood
highly polished wooden pews
hassocks worn and faded now
I kneel to pray; wait for the answer
I hear more when my head is bowed
I ask for signs and always see them
I listen for the wisest voice
In all the things that are sent to try us
there's no need to suffer, we have a choice
look around; the world is crying
we may feel helpless, but there is no need
for every tiny gift we give
we plant a tiny little seed
from that one seed; that solemn gesture
a promised deed will bring a smile
to the faces of the strangers
who we have helped another mile
there are some who wish to silence
the voice I have; the love I give
but in the quieter moments of my day
I hear them crying and I forgive
recently I learned the secret
of how to still my racing mind
a simple act of conscious softening
of letting go; the gift of leaving past behind
I never knew it could be that easy
to achieve a sense of such well-being
but it only took a single moment
the tick-tock of a clock in time
It's something that I used to do
when I was just a little child
when I was closer to the angels
when I was small and meek and mild
we should listen in the silence
to the gaps that come in between
the words that others whisper to us
to find the truth; see what it means
often words themselves are without meaning
but the way they are delivered says much more
be kind and love even those who hurt us
even long after they closed and slammed the door
we set off on our different journeys
we meet and sometimes we must part
we learned a lesson or taught another
I engrave my lessons on my heart
I walk my path now in the silence
in the distance; who knows where
I live each moment with each breath
I will be here; more often there.

White elephants are considered sacred in Buddhist countries and promise happiness and well-being. But the way in which they are kept couldn't be more contradictory, and it suggests that this is why the animals are particularly spoiled. But a visit to Burma's white elephants reveals the opposite.
Six of the nine white elephants that are in captivity in Burma are vegetating here in the elephant house in the capital Nay Pyi Taw. They eke out their lives on a few square meters.
A taxi driver explains that the tied animals are a symbol of the power of the military. So everything is under control.
In fact, a prominent Burmese elephant expert, who is afraid of being named, confirms that the highest army generals and their entourage visited the white elephants in the capital Nay Pyi Taw regularly.
One of the country's two vice presidents is also one of the weekly visitors. They all believed the animals would bring good luck and maintain power.

Friendship is an extraordinary mixture that humans feel the need to develop, feel and maintain for a harmonization of group life. It is of a bewitching resonance, making a softness and an ardour of well-being, to live well and especially to communicate well. It surpasses benevolence, which goes far beyond simple behavior and a gracious sympathy customary to good morals. Friendship is this bond woven with tenderness, benevolence, altruism, generosity and especially honesty.
We all have families and friends that we love. Surely before starting a war, or even considering continuing a war, a person should evaluate the devastation left behind after the war.
War causes the destruction of physical infrastructure, the psychological well-being of children, those fighting in the war, and those left under the bombing. The destruction of families, both psychologically and through death. The scarcity of food and general products. It interferes and can destroy general transit, interferes with the education of children, caring for the sick and the elderly. Leaving many homeless.
Finances are very tight after the war. In other words, life is totally changed for the worse for quite a long time after a war, basically all for nothing. Usually started in the name of tyrannical power and wealth. There is nothing good about war, everything is good and possible about peace. In peace life still has its ups and downs but not by force and democracy has its legitimate place.

“Urban Ecosystem Restoration” mural painted by Millo for Street Art For Mankind
From the Street Art For Mankind instagram post:
It features the artist’s signature clumsy character in a surreal setting, attempting to reclaim his space in an urban jungle that has forgotten our primary needs. It poetically and powerfully underscores the importance of green spaces in urban environments. The character demonstrates the strength of these spaces, their transformative impact on our reality, and how they enhance our well-being. It’s a clear invitation to reconnect with nature in our cities.

So... yea this ones bitter sweet. Being on tour, the drinking the parties, the drugs, I really let myself go. The avi in the first picture wasn't confident, low self esteem, felt like the crosshairs on him were judging. The after pic is where I'm at today, 8 months on, tirelessly working in the gym and eating clean. Honestly I'm so happy I've made these changes and not because of my size but just for my overall health and mental well being. I feel like 2021 is my year!
