Deze foto is genomen op het strand van Katwijk aan zee.
Avondzon is de speciale belichting van de zon aan het begin van de avond, die kan optreden bij helder tot lichtbewolkt weer. Het staat daarmee tegenover de dageraad, de morgenstond, ook genoemd het morgenrood.
Het is de openingsscène van de schemering.
Wat door de avondzon wordt belicht, ondergaat een optische transformatie die in het algemeen als aangenaam wordt beschouwd.
Soms kan de avondzon de lucht avondrood kleuren.

Een stralende windstille dag, onder een strak blauwe hemel nodigt uit tot suppen op het Slotermeer. Komend vanuit Woudsend betekent dat dus eerst een stukje Ee varen. Doe je dat voor 9 uur, dan is het water als een spiegel, rimpelloos mooi. Ben je wat later, dan krijg je te maken met langsvarende schepen en hekgolven en golfjes. Geen nood, maar wel een goede reden om op tijd op de knieën te gaan. Stand up ben je toch net iets minder stabiel dan leuk is. Op het meer doet ga ik weer overeind en peddel naar de visser. Dit is een dag waarop de netten gespoeld en gedroogd worden en ik kijk toe. De zeilschool doet oefeningen in omslaan; ik blijf liever droog.

The junction Joure is a node with three branches and direct connections with flyovers. The node is constructed according to the TOTSO-principle, in which traffic on the A7 has no need to turn.
