In the spirit of the current National Geographic "Your Shot" assignment pertaining to Biodiversity, here's a studio-like shot of my two Eastern Hercules Beetles. The patterning on the elytra (hard wing coverings) of each beetle is like a human fingerprint, in that it is unique to each individual. Can you guess which one is the male?
It took about 20 shots before I got a satisfactory harmony between built-in flash, a dim LED flashlight, and a very powerful LED Mag-Lite, background and shadows. Minor post-editing done, mostly to give the background the proper purity of white.
Tracing of American Weekly 3740. I hope to start making tracings of my pattern packet illustrations to make concept drawings.
Messing around, finally, with the Intuos4 drawing pad my dad got me for Christmas. I've tried to tell him not to get me any more technology since I never have time to learn to use it, but at least this is pretty simple. I made a copy of the original pattern illustration, cleaned it up a little, then faded it to as pale a gray as I could still see, then traced over it in a darker color and erased the original wherever it showed under the tracing. I'm sure there's a more efficient method, but this worked pretty well.
Yes, drawing pad users everywhere are laughing at me, but this is the first time I've ever used the thing, so cut me some slack.
On weekly chart EURGBP clearly broke out of trendline, this was part of triangle formed by two converging trendline. Price moved up and down several time within this triangle before breaking out to the top. Now, with the trendline broken price is looking to move higher.

This week the Weekly Challenge was sunrise or sunset and I had a really hard time getting one this night looks good but I'd already been in the cold feeding the birds and taking shots for two hours and wanted to get home............I "helped" the sky a little bit here, then the clouds moved in and I thought oh heck I'm going home
Active Assignment Weekly: Mar 9th - Mar 17th
ASSIGNMENT
Deconstruction
DESCRIPTION
For the literal-minded, think parts of a whole. For the literary-minded, you could probably interpret this any way you like. ;)
RESTRICTIONS
No collages, but multiple frames within a single capture are ok - see example.
DARE
None.
WIT
I am in the midst of a basement remodel which has gotten in the way of my photography. My shooting space is in disarray with dust and detritus everywhere. When I chose this assignment, I must have been thinking about the remodel subconsciously.
The construction debris in the back is real. The bent nails and pry bar were placed. Lighting with a single bare strobe behind the scene.

I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works..Psalm 139:14 .... So we were visiting my cousin and his wife today..Proud parents of a baby boy who was born last night. I totally didn't have this planned for this week, but I had my camera along and decided.."this is it". I am not satisfied since the lighting was bad and I couldn't get the camera to co-operate..lol. I added glow and vignette in Picasa.
