365: The 2018 Edition-Perpendicular
I've been waiting for a while for this to happen. This fellow just cut all the weeds along the front of our property! It is town property so they do it, not us.

Cutting on the Avon River in an area known as Kerr's Reach, the area that rowers practice.
The Canada Geese do not seem too worried about the big orange beast moving up the river.
When the storage on the cutter is full it moves back to the unloading conveyor, in this case about 100m ahead of the cutter. From there the weeds are dumped on the embankment till a CityCare truck arrives and scoops up all the weed, and takes it to a composting site. CityCare is a city council owned company.
5/2/2012. Ranby. British Waterways 'Weed Cutter' is not going very far today! This fine vessel is named 'Ranby'' and operates on the Chesterfield Canal.

The Milltown Feeder is an exceptionally charming small canal branch of the Grand Canal or Ireland. I had been up a bit of it in March 1980. This time on 17th March 2023 we were at Milltown Bridge and I was really taken by the Conver weedkiller. It would be perfect for Carlingwark Loch. Nearby an interpretation board reproduced a 19th century handbill for packet boat services from here to Dublin. This year's trips covered familiar territory - but the boats we met on the waterways and during excursions provided variety.
As we approached the start of the channel down to the lock at Painfaut activity was spotted at the entrance - as we neared it became apparent that weed was being cut from the river channel and placed in a floating skip.
An aquatic weed harvester is many things to many people. It is a milfoil harvester, an algae skimmer, a mechanical harvester. Whatever you call it - Call Aquarius Systems!

Weedcutter at Evran. As we arrived at the moorings this weedcutter was just coming out of the lock. We had been moved off the moorings last winter to allow the pound to be drained, in the hope that the exposed weed would be killed off by the winter frosts. The winter was wet and mild - so the plan failed. The weedcutter was brought in the cut the fresh growth of weed, and inhibit its spread. When we returned to the moorings in mid-September the weed had regrown in a number of pounds, leaving only a central channel.

The floating skips from the weedcutting exercise on the canal by Limur lock were being dragged ashore on the Ile aux Pies to be emptied out onto the bank - presumably to be loaded onto a lorry for final disposal.
