It was impossible to photograph all the details on the figurines, but the bride had a "diamond" nose stud, which I made using a single grain of sugar and painting silver, silly really, because unless you get very, very close, you can't even see it :)
the cake is a 10-8-6, bottom two tiers chocolate mud, top tier on foam, hot pink gerberas, my first ever, and pale green roses. The rose leaves were made white and then dipped in an alcohol/dye solution. And yes, the groom does have a little mowhawk.
Overall I was very happy with this cake, and found the gerberas really simple to make.

Occasionally, the third marriage is a charm! I came out of retirement for this bride. She and her groom had a beautiful outdoor wedding with lots of family to cheer them on.

I hope you all had a nice, relaxing long weekend. Me, no weddings, no kids. Just hung out and worked on the house and it was so rewarding. But this weekend coming up is another wedding at the beach, which means partying into the night.
I realize a lot of the wedding photos I post are lovely staged photos, in beautiful light, perfectly timed, romantic and stoic. But just as important to the bride & groom are those crazy party photos showing the guests having a great time. Now sometimes (and by ‘sometimes’ I mean ‘often’) some guests go a little overboard and get carried away. Part of my job is to jump right there in the middle of it all and get those crazy shots.
And I’ll get the overly-conservative parent or aunt who declares, “Ohhh! This is not appropriate for wedding photography! Weddings are suppose to be classy, and elegant and mature and embody the sophistication of married adults…”
Bah! Go back to Cape Cod you old-school, overly-conservative party pooper!
I’m 90% of the time using bounce flash on the ceiling and holding the camera way above my head, angled down to get these shots and need to predict when these moments occur. So it’s part luck and part skill intuition. Here are just a few of the many, many moments from my first 115 or so weddings so go check it!

Wednesday 29 July 1981 was the day of the Royal Wedding between Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer, faced with wall-to-wall coverage of the event and having absolutely no interest in the event I decided to head north to avoid things. My family were happily ensconced with extended family in Chester.
This was the first time that I had gone north of Appleby to photograph steam and had very little idea of where to go to get a decent photo.
So I ended up at Kirkby Thore to see SR 4-6-0 850 Lord Nelson heading towards Appleby with not a hint of exhaust though there were indications it had been producing the 'black stuff' shortly before. In fact this lack of success continued for the entire day also with an almost cloudless sky still managing to lose the sun at this location.
Annoyingly the grand headboard proclaimed The Wedding Belle. So much for avoiding the event
