Windows Hosting services are becoming much more popular among webmasters, due to their ease of use and access to exclusive services and applications only available on the Windows platform. However, Windows' popularity in server racks is far outweighed by the desktop counterpart; Linux servers are far more stable and popular for server hosting purposes, for a variety of reasons. For most, Windows servers will be unnecessary, and simply just an added cost that offers no benefits, but there are a few fringe cases where Windows Hosting is helpful or advantageous over Linux Hosting. .
Windows servers use Internet Information Services (IIS) to host sites. It is available on all Windows machines as a "hidden" feature, and even regular home computers could be used to host servers with this service, provided there is enough bandwidth. Microsoft's answer to the complimentary and widely used MySQL database service is called Microsoft's SQL server. It has a wide feature set that includes stored procedures and triggers and is a typically used for optimized and high performance solutions and applications. The fact that Windows hosted sites are generally using ASP.net, means that the sites can be programmed in any.NET programming language like C # or Visual Basic. This gives advantages like memory leak protection, crash protection, and so much more. Sites can be programmed in object-oriented fashions, which should excite any programmers. .
Also, Windows has a lot of enterprise level applications that are known for being stable and perfect for companies and enterprises. One of these applications is called an Exchange Server, which handles data and information. Using a Windows server will allow you to run applications that are exclusive to the Windows Operating System, and this is perfect for users looking to run backlinking or Search Engine Optimization (SEO) software on a server, to enhance their rankings in search engines like Google. .
However, there are downsides to using Windows Hosting services, and a lot of them will far outweigh the advantages. The biggest thing is Microsoft charges licensing fees to companies or individuals wanting to use Windows Hosting services, while Linux Hosting service licenses are complimentary. IIS, ASP.net, and.NET support come with all Windows installations, but SQL and Exchange Servers also require additional licensing fees, so the costs add up when hosting with a Windows server. Most of the products and services used on Windows platforms are closed source, while most are open source on Windows, and most of these products are commercialized and require additional licensing and even more fees to pay to run the server. Linux is very well known for its stability (at least when used and installed correctly for hosting services), while Windows is known to have some problems and stability issues. Almost everyone has heard of the Blue Screen of Death, and it happens occasionally when using Windows machines. .
All in all, it comes down to the extra costs, but extra application support when using Windows Servers. Michael came to USF in 2009 as the Webmaster for the College of Arts and Sciences and has since built himself a reputation for being an ideal employee and an outstanding colleague.
Michael’s passion for web design is a valuable asset to the College of Arts and Sciences. I've been working a ton getting my game website back up.
Everyone at school keeps getting on me to fix it so they can play games in their computer classes... haha
It's pretty cool though because just about everyone at our high school (and even a few other schools) uses my site and at one point I was getting 100,000 page views a month.
It's just a site with 50 or so of my favorite flash games, and it's just about the only game site that isn't blocked at our school.. haha

Through the generosity of the webmaster of Evergreenfleet.com (who graciously provided more than a half dozen photos of the Kalakala's main engine room), I have now been able to complete *most* of the Kalakala's main engine room details.
There are still some incomplete areas. These incomplete areas are due to a lack of available views into a certain area and a lack of research material available. For instance, in the first rendering there are large copper pipes leading up to a series of large electric pump motors from under the engine room floor.
Since the last upload, I examined some of those photos and determined there were two large tanks there, with a central Y valve leading off of the main piping assembly from both tanks.
I've modeled this area as accurate as possible given technical research limitations.
One for all you textures fans out there. An image from the the Caisson sealing the Thompson Graving Dock, where Titanic was built.

Just as she initially spotted the spider web clothed in raindrops yesterday afternoon (previous image), Ruth Ann discovered a spider in the web yesterday evening. This was about 25 minutes after "sunset" -- there had been no sunshine on this rainy day -- with only some faint light from the sky, and it was on the spider's underside. The only way to see the spider was with a light on in the bedroom and, as earlier in the day, the shot was taken through the storm window to avoid destroying the web. I couldn't see well enough to tell what I was doing, but viewing the image in Aperture I have been able to see that the operative focus point was on the spider's head; unfortunately, this happy circumstance was largely offset by the hand-held, 1/5-second shot and the shallow depth of field of the f/2.8 setting on the macro lens (ISO 8000, 1/3-stop overexposure, no filter -- polarizer removed for more light). I wish I had gotten a better shot, but perhaps this is enough for someone to identify the spider (my guess is that it was a bit over an inch long, front legs to rear legs). Whatever type it is, I'm glad there was a pane of glass between us. NOTE: Tim Hoeflich identifies this, below, as a Marble Spider. Thanks, Tim!

Due to a lack of arrangement plans (and a diagram of these piping arrangements) I have chosen to leave these incomplete. Additionally, in the Auxiliary engine room, there were large tanks that are seen in one photo, but no concise layout of what those tanks were nor a diagram of the piping leading out of them.
At this point the cedar legs are being placed & notched, being prepared for bolting. to the undercarriage of the captains bunk. Also note caster wheels have yet to
be sunk.

On Camp Red Cloud in Uijeongbu Feb. 10, Dave Palmer, webmaster and acting Public Affairs chief at the U.S. Army Garrison Red Cloud and Area I Public Affairs Office is awarded a Commander's Award for Civilian Service by Col. Jack Haefner, the garrison's commander. The award cited Palmer's "tireless efforts" with and "constant monitoring" of the garrison's Facebook page, which became so successful that its "likes" went from 1,166 at the start to a recent level of 17,460. "Mr. Palmer's devotion to the needs of Soldiers, civilians and family members," the award citation reads in part, set "standards of excellence and reflects great credit upon himself, USAG Red Cloud and Area I, and the United States Army. " Earlier in the day, Palmer was honored with a luncheon in Yangju at which various members of the garrison praised his unstinting commitment to photographing garrison events, serving for extended periods as the garrison's acting Public Affairs chief, as well as for his management of Facebook and other garrison media. - U.S. Army photo by Sgt.
