Strands of webbing

Our azaleas are blooming and the spiders seem to think that they are great for webbing also!! Happy Hump Day!!!

Closer to home in Witless Bay NL Canada, we had the opportunity to visit this rare visitor to the province. I posted two images in which you can see the none webbed toes . Following is a description of the differences between the Semi Palmated and this Ringed plover

Two shots for comparison

Webbing of toes: The name semipalmated is referencing the amount of webbing, or palmation, between the toes of these birds. Semipalmated Plovers have partially webbed toes, and importantly it is between each toe. Common Ringed Plovers have no webbing between their inner and middle toes but do have minor webbing between their middle and outer toes.

Orbital ring: The unfeathered skin around the eye is called the orbital ring, which in Semipalmated Plovers is a yellow color. The orbital in Common Ringed is dark. Like the webbing of the toes, this is a diagnostic field mark, but both can be very hard to see, especially at a distance.

Gape: Less diagnostic than the above features, but the presence of white feathering above the gape (corner of the mouth) is more commonly seen in Semipalmated Plover. Common Ringed Plovers typically have the dark feathers above the beak extend down to the gape but beware some Semipalmated can show that too.

Supercilium: The ‘eyebrow’ of Common Ringed Plovers is typically broader and more distinct, especially the amount extending behind the eye (post ocular). This is also very variable between the species but paired with the above features is helpful.

Breast band: Like the supercilium, the thickness of the dark band across the breast of a Common Ringed Plover is greater than what you’d expect on Semipalmated Plovers.

Structure: We’re getting really subtle now, but Common Ringed and Semipalmated plovers are just built different. Common Ringed have a square-headed look. The bill shape is also not as deep as a Semipalmated would show, giving it a thinner or longer appearance than we’d expect to see on a Semipalmated. Common Ringed also look a bit longer than Semipalmated, as if someone tugged on either end, stretching them out a bit.

Color: The upper parts of Common Ringed Plovers appear slightly lighter and grayer than what we see on Semipalmated Plovers, which show a warmer reddish-brown back. This will be hard to appreciate in the field, without any other plovers around to compare. " Maine Audubon-D Hitchcox"

I like these spiders. There are some other spiders that I don't like. But you cannot really understand a Golden's size until you see them in action. This lady had captured a dragonfly. A smaller male, you can see, moved in for a piece of the action. A second male awaits in the distance, thinking, I'm certain, that the first male will end up on the dessert menu. Might be correct. I did rescue a dragonfly the previous day after it managed to wing into her web. Of course, I needed to use care so I didn't damage the web, and the delicate wings of the dragonfly.

Fall certainly presents us with extraordinary colors, but today I discovered textures I wasn't expecting. Between the rain drops falling around me and upon the leaves and then the webbing in that one leaf, I chose to shoot with the red leaf more centered than the web, so as to try to capture the droplets moving slowly down the green leaf on the right. Between the contrasting colors from one side to the other and the textures of the leaf, the web and the droplets...I think Mother Nature honored the MM theme quite well!

I was able to up close with this Dragonfly as he was caught up with some spider webbing, he did eventually escape.

Semipalmated Sandpiper is now considered rare this time of year and the partial webbing helps identify Semipalmated from very similar Stints.

At Coon Bluff this young lady was practicing on her slackline. Amazing to watch her balance on webbing loosely tied to trees. I was impressed.

Here is a slackline starter kit if you're interested. Found using AI. No affiliation. Buyer beware. I just was curious how much it would cost to purchase the equipment.

GI Brick order came in! The webbing is fantastic in person, I certainly had my doubts but they're just what I needed. Sole critique: get rid of the grenades on the vests, they're too tiny. PS do you like my brit paras?

Pakuls and webbing on all three talibans are sculpted. All weapons are modded. In fron a PKM, second is a RPK (longer barrel and different stock), and AKM without stock in the back.

This is some of the figs and weapons i've been working on, trust me, there's more coming. My modern US forces have expanded, a bit.

Replaced the pic. Not the best light, but still a "better" pic than the last one.

I've had the idea for a while but never got around to do something about it. But now I bought one piece of BA webbing. I painted it fast. So Should I use that, paint belts like the other SS has or with the painted webbing like on the splinter soldier?

This is only about my SS soldiers (dot 44), I tried and the webbing "hides" the belt, so I could paint the belt on them and still use BA webbing.

So to continue with my (atm 2 "big" projects) I had to make an order. So I bet you can guess what it contained. Some of it at least ;)

We have many of these spiders around our place right now. We have seen several bees wrapped in webbing that are saved for feeding. Near Arcata, California on the Northcoast of Humboldt County.

Strangely this looks like Cortinarius with the webbing near the stipe

Why is there so much of this stuff in my life?

Spider species unknown, located lower Blue Mountains.

The Malayan Flying Frog, Rhacophorus prominanus, is a species of frog in the moss frog family (Rhacophoridae). It is found in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand.

This is a largish flying frog, with females growing to a body length of up to 7.6 cm (about 3 in), and males reaching up to 6.2 cm body length. Generally jade green on the back and somewhat translucent when small, a prominent red blotch on the webbing extends between the third and fifth hind toes.

Strands of spider web between me and the sun,

The most common of the small plovers on migration through most areas. On its breeding grounds in the north, it avoids the tundra habitat chosen by most shorebirds, nesting instead on gravel bars along rivers or ponds. In such surroundings, its seemingly bold pattern actually helps to make the plover inconspicuous, by breaking up its outline against the varied background. The name "semipalmated" refers to partial webbing between the bird's toes.

I was pleased to find this impressive looking fellow on the shed door this morning. He seemed to be caught up in some webbing, which was beneficial for me although he was struggling to escape, which made stacking quite difficult. I managed to get three shots which were well aligned, so this is the result.

The spider who's webbing he was caught up in came to have a look, but he was far too much for the little arachnid to handle so he went back into hiding. Eventually I gave him a nudge to help him on his way and he climbed to the top of the door and flew off.

It was only when processing I noticed he was sporting a very elegant looking hat, which looked to be a small stone. I considered cloning it out, but decided it added character so left it in place.

Hope you are looking forward to the weekend. Last bank holiday before Christmas for all UK residents!

A shot of the Greater Racket-tailed Drongo clearly showing its elongated outer tail feathers with webbing that is restricted to the tips. Often in older birds either one or both tails are found to be missing. They are conspicuous in the forest habitats often perching in the open attracting attention with a wide range of loud calls that include perfect imitations of many other birds. I have also heard one of them do a perfect imitation of a cat. Like other drongos, these feed mainly on insects but also feed on fruits and visit flowering trees for nectar.

This will include a strip of rubber belt webbing and optional colored plastic strip for belt loops.

Another gull shot I'm afraid.... I rather liked the light shining through the webbing though.

Trying out new webbing, Rudi is carrying MP40, canteen, gas cannister, blanket/bed roll, ammo pouches, grenades, Panzerfaust, scarf and headwrap.

Unfortunately, Dolce tore the webbing between two toes on one of his back feet. This means his has to wear a sock and boot when outside and outside activity is very limited for a couple of weeks.

Fortunately, we are stocked with things to do while under house arrest. Dolce got out all of his Nina Ottosson puzzle games to play with. We are trying to tired out the brain since we'll be limited in how much exercise he can get. Lots of games, trick practice sessions, and nose work.

Gearing up....switching a few time zones soon....practicing patience every second.

Wow, it sure has been awhile since I have posted!! It actually took me a second to remember how to do this...

And, just bought a new 35mm lens...LOVE IT!

This started out as the faded webbing on an old beach chair hanging in my garage. Then, in Photoshop, I saturated it a bit, and next used the crystalize option on the pixelate filter.
