I used one picture for all the effects just for consistency for comparison. The title for each photo consists of the category of the effect and the name of the effect. Some effects would be better used on a different image. There are some effects also that appear to do the same thing in different effect categories.

I saw numerous wild turkeys while hiking in the Mt. Lemmon area in the Santa Catalina Mountains north of Tucson. I believe that these are Gould's Turkey but I can't really tell the difference between Gould's Turkeys and Merriam's Turkeys. I think the location and the white on the tail indicates that these are Gould's turkeys.

The fifth recognized, but least known, wild turkey subspecies is the Gould's (Meleagris gallopavo mexicana) found in portions of Arizona and New Mexico, as well as northern Mexico. It was first described by J. Gould in 1856 during his travels in Mexico.
Like the Merriam's, the Gould's is a bird of the mountains. It exists in very small numbers along the U.S./Mexico borders in Arizona and New Mexico, but is abundant in the northwestern portions of Mexico. The Arizona Game and Fish Department, U.S. Forest Service, the Centro Ecologico de Sonora, the National Wild Turkey Federation and other agencies are working cooperatively to reintroduce a strong Gould's population into Arizona and eventually other states where suitable range exists.
The Gould's turkey is the largest of the 5 subspecies and resembles the Merriam's turkey. They have longer legs, larger feet and larger center tail feathers than any of the other wild turkey subspecies in North America. Gould's differ by having distinctive white tips on the tail feathers and tail rump coverts, which usually separate to show an "eyelash" appearance. Lower back and rump feathers have copper and greenish-golden reflections, not like the faintly iridescent velvety black found on the Merriam's. Gould's body plumage is said to be somewhat blue-green in coloration. Adult females have a less pronounced metallic greenish and reddish sheen and are more purplish.

I thought the blue Bridger Mountains were so beautiful with the storm clouds building over them I had to take a panoramic shot. I just couldn't get it all in one single shot!

Could Burning Man cause an earthquake? A seismologist weighs in ...
Burning Man könnte dazu führen, ein Erdbeben? Ein Seismologe wiegt ...
Google Übersetzung ...
Could Burning Man ...
Could Burning Man ...
Could Burning Man ...
Could Burning Man ...
Could Burning Man ...

I made an apron!!!
I found the pattern in this brilliant book (Danish only) www.paedagogiskbogklub.dk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Produ.... And made it from acrylic covered cotton, trimmed the neckline with handmade biastape and VOILA - deadly simple, deadly cute. Since the fabric has this acrylic layer, there is no need to hem or cover the edges (at least I think so....). This one has now been given to the niece for a test run.

James Louis Douse - Killed in action on Christmas eve 1965. (See army.togetherweserved.com/army/servlet/tws.webapp.WebApp?... ) This man was in my fathers unit and was killed by a Claymore Mine while patrolling. It seems that my dad did not know this person but does remember this tragic Christmas Eve event very well.
This is the first 2 pictures in this series I took a ton of pictures and will upload more later.

Howard Monument by John and Jemima Howard, High Park: This is the grave site of the Howard family who generously donated their 165 acre property, which they called High Park, to the City in 1873 to be used, in perpetuity, as a public park. One of the conditions of the deed was that the couple, John and Jemima Howard, would be buried in the Park and that their graves be maintained by the City. John Howard was a land surveyor and civil engineer, as well as the first professional architect in Toronto.
Take a look at the cairn of stones that reflects Jemima's Scottish heritage. Atop the cairn is a marble pediment, and on top of that you will find a Maltese cross. This cross is a Masonic symbol, used here because John Howard was a member of a Masonic lodge. The tomb was designed and erected by Howard in 1875, two years before the death of his wife, and 15 years before his own death at age 87. The gravestone you see in front of the monument was added later.
You wouldn’t expect it, but the most interesting part of this monument may actually be the fence. Take a look at the black railing that stands in front of the monument. It once encircled St. Paul's Cathedral, in London. Can you find the poem, probably composed by Howard himself, on a metal plate on one of the posts? It reads:
Saint Paul’s Cathedral
For 160 years
I did enclose
Oh! Stranger look with reverence
MAN, MAN! UNSTABLE MAN
It was thou who caused the severance.
When Howard learned from his brother-in-law in London that the railing surrounding Saint Paul’s Cathedral would be torn down he wired money to buy it. After all, it had been designed by the cathedral's architect, the celebrated Sir Christopher Wren, in 1714.
Unfortunately the ship carrying the railing sank in the St. Lawrence River! But Howard was determined, and had the portion that you see here raised from the river bottom at an expense greater than shipping it from London.
I share an office with two individuals from South Korea so we thought it would be fun during the 2012 olympics to track each countries medal count. We started off simply updating the numbers on our dry-erase board. I thought it would be more fun to develop a web tool that would update without me needing to edit the html page each time a new medal was earned. Using an API generated by the London 2012 Olympics website, I was able to parse a JSON data feed to dynamically load the medal counts in real time, automatically.
