My close Friends know I'm the last person on the planet they'd suspect would do a tribute to the passing of Billy Mays. After all, as they've heard over and over again, Billy, along with Ditech.com and Viagra commercials are the primary reasons I stopped watching commercial television several years ago.

A couple months back I made a seemingly innocent wisecrack tweet about Billy Mays' boisterousness on Twitter. His son, whose Twitter name is YoungBillyMays, saw the tweet and immediately started following me on Twitter.

I initially wrote-off the follow as somebody posing as Billy Mays' son. After a few days of sporadic investigation, I came to verify that "YoungBillyMays" really was the son of the famous pitchman! Soon after getting over feeling a bit freaked-out, I began following him.

We exchanged a few DMs (Direct Messages, which are private messages between two Twitter users.) and I found him to be a really nice person who was clearly very proud of what his Dad had accomplished. Young Billy Mays directed some of his Dad's recent commercials.

Young Billy Mays often tweeted about the Pitchmen series, which airs on the Discovery Channel. I actually re-tweeted (Re-tweeting is the act of repeating someone else's tweet, thus exposing the message to those who follow you. It's quite handy for viral marketing purposes.) one of his messages touting a recent episode of the show.

I have yet to watch the Pitchmen program, primarily because I don't watch TV, but also because it featured the very annoying Billy Mays.

After yesterday's announcement of the death of Billy Mays, I'll DVR, then watch the next episode I encounter.

Since the moment Young Billy Mays heard of the passing of his Father he has maintained the strength and presence of mind to keep his followers abreast of the situation, his feelings, and those of his family.

Someone suggested people wear a blue shirt today in memory of Billy Mays. Young Billy thought this was a great idea and stated that his dad would be honored by such a gesture.

A person in the Twitterverse has volunteered to put a collage together of those who wish to submit tribute photos. Send them to: musicguycny@gmail.com

But wait! There's more!!

As Young Billy tweeted right before he went to bed last night:

"Please take a moment to tell someone you love how much you love them."

Rest In Peace, Billy Mays.

I have been carrying a GPS tracker with me at all times, walking, busing, driving and flying. This image is generated solely from the GPS data. The color of the lines corresponds to the speed I was traveling. Frequently-traveled paths appear thicker because of how many overlapping tracks there are.

«Web Trends - 10 cases made in web 2.0» é um livro sobre tendências.
