Silo-Busting with Scenarios
Kim Goodwin, Designer and Design Management Consultant
Perhaps the biggest cause of bad user experiences is the organizational silo: customers have to talk with three different groups to fix one problem, or use a mobile app that’s nothing like the desktop site, or deal with a retail store associate who has no idea what’s offered online. In this session, Kim will show you how effective scenarios can shift everyone’s perspective away from internal structures. You’ll learn what makes an effective scenario and what scenarios can do that use cases and user stories seldom can.

Un bel dì, vedremo
levarsi un fil di fumo
sull'estremo confin del mare.
E poi la nave appare.
Poi la nave bianca
entra nel porto,
romba il suo saluto.
I read about this place about 3 or so years ago on the Nature Conservancies website (http://www.nature.org/ourinitiatives/regions/northamerica/unitedstates/wisconsin/index.htm) and have been wanting to get there ever since. The day finally came on this past Friday. This spot is a little gem. There is a 3.3 mile round trip hike through the desert like prairie up to the bluff. I didn't make it up to the bluff as I thought that there were going to be some serious storms starting up (see my epic cloud fortress), however I will totally be going back to check out the view.
This is the view that greets you once you enter the reserve. Some things of note are 8 different types of wolf spiders (I didn't run across any unfortunately) as well as a type of Prickly Pear Cactus that is native to Wisconsin (Opuntia humifusa (Raf.) Raf. var. humifusa). Wild!
I totally need to go back, and I urge any of you in the area (about an hour or so west of Madison)

The statue of John Witherspoon outside Paisley Tech. He was minister of the Laigh kirk in the town from 17588-1768 and later went on to become a signatory of the United States Declaration of Independence as a representative of New Jersey. As president of the College of New Jersey (1768–94; now Princeton University), he trained many leaders of the early nation and was the only active clergyman and the only college president to sign the Declaration. In 1988, the National Indies Monument was unveiled in the city park Hattem in Roermond, the Netherlands. Every year on 7 September the more than 6,200 soldiers who fell in the former Netherlands East Indies and New Guinea between 1945 and 1962 are commemorated here. Their names are mentioned on eighteen triangular pillars made of stainless steel, which stand behind the bronze bust of general Simon H. Spoor, commander-in-chief of the Dutch military forces in the Dutch East Indies during 1946-1949.
During the ceremony many regiments and forces of the Royal Netherlands Army lay a wreath. Each year there are also many authorities present on behalf of the government and the Royal Family among others. This year about 20,000 people, including many veterans, attended the commemorative ceremony. The Royal Netherlands Air Force performed a salute by flying the missing man formation with four F-16s.
Realisation and design of the monument: Wynand Thönissen and Dick van Wijk.
