We recently visited Branklyn Garden again. And, it was fascinating.

My wife spotted this web, which was backlit by the morning sun.

It’s stunningly intricate (and it’s a pattern!). It’s also larger than I thought at first glance. Look carefully around the edges of the shot and you’ll see the outer limits of the web. Wonderful!

I was happy I did not encounter the creature that spun this one!

A spider in my garden

An active hunter, the female Nursery Web spider spins web to protect her young as they are about to hatch to protect them until they are able to venture out alone. She will carry the egg-sac in her fangs before they hatch.

They are a widespread species and are a relatively large spider, (1.5cm long body), closely related to the rarer Raft spider; they can be spotted sunbathing in brambles or on nettles.

I think these tiny spiders are harmless

I captured about 15 feet above the ground, 27 feet distant at my home in Fairfax Vermont,

July 5 2012, 5:19pm. Exposure 0.6 seconds ISO 200. Darkened to bring out color only.

This is my first successful test shot for webs, with more shots planned.

spiders set such beautiful traps

Stopped by at lunch the other day.

If you like old deteriorating vehicles, stop in at Dave's Old Truck Rescue in Sprague, Washington where a huge collection of decaying trucks are on display.

Tree spider...... I can't believe the shots I can get with that 300mm f/2.8L lens..this is taken with the 1.4 TC on as well..for total focal range of 420mm..

07/02/2006 : joshaujamesgross identified it as the St Andrews Cross spider.

I thought I'd see if there were any autumn colours in the garden that would make a nice photo, then suddenly this caught my eye!! I managed to capture some of the colours from my Virginia Creeper in the backgrounddd.
