Female Nursery Web Spiders (Pisaura mirabilis) produce very large egg sacs, which they carry around beneath their body. When the time for the spiderlings to emerge approaches, the female deposits the egg sac on a leaf and spins a protective silk ‘nursery web’ around it. She then opens the egg sac slightly, and stands guard until the spiderlings emerge.

Ice cold storm in Weber Canyon. Gusts and snow flurries rising out of the ground. I went out to capture some Christmas fun at 2.7 megapixels. Because film isn’t challenging enough. Nikon D1 digital camera, still a pro, even if it isn’t up to modern ‘Hype’. It can get the job done. These were shot at ISO 200 and f/22. Using a Kodak DKL Schneider-Kreuznach Retina Xenon 50mm f/1.9 lens adapted to Nikon. That lens is late 1960s vintage repurposed from a retired Kodak Instamatic Reflex 126 camera. I meant to set the shutter speed as well, but in the end, I forgot and left the D1 to its own devices. These are Downtown, Ogden, Utah shot on Boxing Day 2021.
ODC Group 1: 12/1/2011: Radiating Lines.
I saw this incredible web hanging below a parking lot lamp in front of my car, right after reading tomorrow's theme was radiating lines. For once I had my camera with me. The web was huge, over 2 feet across.
