With the assistance of the United Nations Regional Centre for Peace, Disarmament and Development in Latin America and the Caribbean, Peruvian authorities destroyed over 2,000 small arms in Trujillo, Peru, as part of a national campaign to prevent armed violence and promote human security.
The photo shows the cutting of seized weapons at the official ceremony in 2015. By linking disarmament with community resilience, this initiative demonstrates how women can take active roles in advancing peace and security, embodying the principles of the WPS agenda.
