This is the place in our hearts, in our homes, because this is the place that’s a part of our bones.

Because greater Manchester gives us such strength from the fact that this is the place, we should give something back.

Always remember, never forget, forever Manchester.

Here’s my “Tiny Protest” with its "Macro” message for this week’s #MacroMonday theme, #OnACoin

The base is a 5 Turkish lira coin from 1974. Diameter of the coin is 32.5 mm. On the coin is a cut-out cork piece, from a wine bottle that was opened on a day with bittersweet memories.

Pinned to the cork piece are a bunch of justice wishes written on rice grains. Rice grains are glued to colorful ball pins. Colorful ball pins represent our beautiful diverse universe, and beautiful things happen if we all stand together for justice and equality.

Thank you for your visit :)) HMM!

This project started with an idea I liked very much. First I very carefully prepared a stencil for the text. Then, I prepped the light and camera and took a few empty shots to adjust the location/setup etc. Then, I prepared a funny dessert with some sweet whipping cream and milk froth. After plating the dessert, I carefully placed the stencil and dusted the whole thing with cocoa powder. I watched, with sad eyes, the whole thing falling apart when I took the stencil out.

Thank God for Photoshop :)))) I will still try the stencil project some other time but for now, Happy Wednesday friends! Thank you for your visit :)))

No cream, milk and cocoa powder are wasted in the shoot of this photo :)))

I am Charlie

You are Charlie

This shot was taken a week ago from London Bridge, where i was taking a walk during Friday Lunchtime. After today's terrorist attack, i feel very sad and proud to be a Londoner! I pray for all the victims out there. Let's stay together. Love London

I had planned to take this photograph this morning anyway, but listening to the news has made it so much more poignant.

A tribute by the poet John Walsh (longfella) to the victims of the Manchester Terror attack 22/05/17.

The worker bee, mostly referred to as the Manchester bee, has come to proudly symbolise the city's past and came to represent the city's indomitable spirit following the Arena suicide bombing on May 22, 2017 that killed 22 innocent people at a pop concert.

The worker bee has long been a symbol of Manchester and of the city’s hard-working past. And while every other city in the north of England has a heritage built upon industry - there is a reason that the bee symbol is a part of Manchester’s coat of arms which was given to the city in 1842. In the 1800s Manchester was awash with textile mills that were commonly described as ‘hives of activity’ and the workers inside them compared to bees.‘Busy bee’ is still a term associated with industriousness and hard work.

These days Manchester is a city mostly associated with a deep and rich pop culture and a musical history that has influenced artists all over the globe. Coincidentally, the former Sankeys nightclub in Ancoats is housed in the former Beehive Mill on Jersey Street. You won’t just find the bee on bins dotted around the city though. The bee can be seen on the clock face of the Palace Hotel, on the mosaic flooring at Manchester Town Hall and even above the arches of Links of London.Furthermore, urban beekeeping even takes place on the roof of The Printworks, thus producing local honey. Following the Manchester Arena bombing on May 22, 2017, the worker bee became a symbol of unity and defiance in the wake of the attack. It has come to represent Manchester’s indomitable spirit.People added the symbol to their social media profiles, while others even permanently inked the bee onto their bodies. Huge murals went up across the city. An image of 22 Manchester worker bees was emblazoned on a wall on the side of the Koffee Pot building in the heart of the Northern Quarter. Each bee, pictured swarming around a honey heart, represents one of the innocent people killed in the attack. It has also cropped up on numerous graffiti tributes around the Northern Quarter and Stevenson Square.

Justice for George Floyd (Minneapolis), Regis Korchinski-Paquet (Toronto), Tony McDade (Tallahassee) Breonna Taylor (Louisville), and All Victims of Police Impunity

Montreal Solidarity Demonstration

Sunday, May 31, 5pm at Montreal Police Headquarters

1441 St-Urbain (between de Maisonneuve & Ste-Catherine)

In the past several days, we have witnessed courageous resistance to racist police violence in Minneapolis and all over the USA, after the police murder of George Floyd.

Meanwhile, in Toronto this past Wednesday, Regis Korchinski-Paquet fell to her death from a high-rise balcony tower while alone with police.

That same day, Tony McDade was killed by police in Tallahassee.

In March, Breonna Taylor was shot by police in her own apartment, and recently protests have erupted in Louisville demanding justice in her case. Unfortunately, we can mention many more names of Black Lives who have been killed as a result of police racism in the past few weeks and months.

As we denounce recent police killings in the USA, we also denounce police killings of Black Lives here in Montreal, from Anthony Griffin in NDG in 1987 to BonyJean-Pierre in Montréal-Nord (2016), Pierre Coriolan in Centre-Sud (2017) and Nicholas Gibbs in NDG (2018).

The inspiring resistance to racist police violence in the United States demands our solidarity and support, even during the pandemic.

We encourage you, if you can, to attend this solidarity demonstration in large numbers this coming Sunday, to declare together #BlackLivesMatter and to denounce police violence and impunity against everyone.

(An initiative of several anti-police brutality and anti-racist activists and organizers in Montreal)

NB: Everyone of all races and backgrounds are encouraged to attend the 17h protest in front of police HQ.

BEFORE the protest there will be a "Holding Space for Black Life" event that is reserved exclusively for Black folks. We need this time to be among ourselves to grieve, share & to hold one another. Please respect our space.

A note about safety: In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, the organizers of this demonstration encourage participants to participate as safely as possible, following public health protocols.

We ask that participants maintain 2 meters physical distance between each other, and have chosen a demonstration location where we can take up a lot of space.

We also ask that demonstration participants wear masks (except those who can't for other health reasons).

We will have some extra masks on-hand for those who forget or can't bring their own.

We will gather in hundreds while maintaining proper physical distance, and looking out for each other's safety and security.

We encourage participants to attend by car and bike as well, which might form a procession through downtown streets.
