My great-grandfather and great-grandmother Justus. They were married for over 70 years, and I was fortunate enough to have met them... although I was too young to really remember it...

This photo is so wrong, it's right. I love the shadows, even if mom did cut half of dad's head off....

My dad's Gulf service station, on US Highway 70 in downtown Black Mountain, NC - taken sometime in the early 1960s.

I have posted a photo similar to this one before.. but this one includes more of the car, and some of that cool "Gulf" sign on the roof.

My grandfather running the grill at home on a weekend.

Photographer and date unknown.

Here is how he spent his workdays.

Some of you will remember that he was also a grill supervisor.

EPCOT Center, Florida

Taken with my Kodak Instamatic 100.

Even when I was a kid, I was fascinated by the design and graphics of these structures at EPCOT Center. The logos were incredible... and the futuristic vibe of the park was amazing. That, along with the pavilions of the nations, made visiting here like being at all of the World's Fairs that I was born too late to experience.

Fourteen years later... same summer grass. But rather than taking it easy, I occupied my time rolling down this hill over and over. My grandmother wondered how I didn't make myself sick.

I actually remember these toy cars... I got them on a trip to the beach earlier that spring. A few years later, my cousin Dave and I would set them on fire just to watch them burn. Good times.

With autumn fast approaching, my mom and dad would like to thank you all for stopping by the Wayback Series... and they hope that you have enjoyed the photos from the lake this summer. Time to put the swimsuits away for the year.

Six Flags over Georgia

This is the Mist Trail heading up to Vernal Falls (317 feet). This is one of the most beautiful trails I have ever been on. The roar is overwhelming, the mist covers everything in a fine spray and makes the gray granite mountainside green. The very best time to visit Yosemite is in May before Memorial Day. You have to put in a permit request for a campsite in January though, so if your thinking of going its too late. ;) (PS. I happen to know the best camping spot in all of Yosemite Valley)

For Way Back Wednesday, taken in May 2003 on a backpacking trip with our good friends the Rudds.
