These spectacular. high-pressure "horizontal fountains" are on the Savoureuse River, in the city of Belfort, France. As shown, they are located where the river runs past Le Granit Scène Nationale, a theatre and hall for concerts and other events.

PECULIARLY...I cannot find, via a Google Search, any mention of the fountains in any articles about either the city of Belfort, or the theatre or the Savoureuse River. Also, I could not find any similar images via a Google Image Search.

We were only there once. As shown, the late morning in October sun did a fine job of lighting the fountain sprays. I have no idea when--or if--the fountains are activated on a regular basis.

NB - The high f-stop I used, f/22, put everything more or less in focus, from the foreground railing to the street in the background. This was in spite of shooting at a moderate telephoto focal length (55m = FF ca. 82.5 mm).

I hope you are floating nicely thru fall too. These autumn leaves are floating in a wooden watering trough. It is at the beginning of the countryside, just up the street from where we live.

This was just a lucky shot. I never remember to set my camera for an automatic rapid sequence of shots. The shutter speed I had selected (1/500s) was enough to "freeze" the "back splash" after the water drop dropped.

The water is in a watering trough. It is partly reflecting the blue sky but also partly showing the green algae on the bottom of the trough. The trough's delivery pipe was about 50 cm above the surface. It was just dripping drops rather than delivering a stream.

Brunnen Wasser (German) can refer to water from a well, a fountain or a spring.

Here it means this is a street access to the local pipes and their controls that

transport water from two special community wells to one of our village

of Riehen's numerous, revered and much-loved public fountains.

They are big and old and extremely well-kept.

I call my photo"Wellness Water" for good reasons.

First, the water is tested frequently to ensure that it meets

the highest-level technical standards for water qualiry.

However...beyond that, local lore says that it is really good for "what ails you"

in ways beyond what mere technical standards say. It is THE home drinking water

for a substantial number of Rieheners.

How do they get it?

This "wellness water" flows steadily 24/7/365* into Riehen's numerous public fountains.

It does so via easily-accessible raised, always-open spigots. Everyone is free to fill

their own containers, including 20-liter plastic jugs...which is what many do, every day or two.

Is drinking Riehen's "wellness water" either a preventive or curative?

There are lots of local stories. Many of those who drink it say "better safe than sorry"

and that besides, it tastes better than tap water. BTW, it also meets high standards.

* Riehen's wells, up in the hills above the village, never run dry and would overflow

if the water was not sent on. The overflow from the fountains makes its way to the

little River Wiese, which empties into the Rhine. Due to lack of sufficient glacial run-off

in the Alps, the Rhine is too low this year, and presents a shipping hazard.

So, the Rhine needs all the water it can get, and Riehen is actually helping out!

During some random browsing, I ran across this candid, unposed photo of mine. I have been meaning to post it for years, and now I have!

Freiburg IB is a really nice, environmentally friendly German city. I don't know why, but downtown, it has a number of these tiny ditches through which flows seemingly clean water. They are somehow attractive.

😮 Also, I don't know why these duckies were chained up like this. It is hard to imagine that they had done anything that merited such cruel punishment. 😮

For Tuesday's Textures.

This is a water system access cover in a cobbled street.

It is is a little bit of a mystery to me:

How does one remove the cover? I don't see any place to insert a tool to pry or lift it up. Since it is made of iron, is there a lifting tool that employs a big magnet? What does the dab of white paint indicate?

After on and off searching and taking the winter off the idea, I finally found this drain after almost a year.

A stone bridge and waterfall adjacent to the trailhead parking lot on Spring Street, in fall color

Harvesting and saving water has always been an issue for Amman.

The Citadel never had natural spring and depended on the careful collection and storage of rainwater. NOT a drop was wasted, and sophisticated underground stone channels for recycling water characterize the site.

The excaved water channels and cisterns have often been built, rebuilt and reused by different civilizations throughout the centuries.

I guess the number means something to the people who open these mystical portals to monitor the underground goings-on in water supply and sewer systems. Blotzheim, Alsace FR. This is a weir.* The afternoon sun turned the water flowing past the weir's watergate chain into a pretty sight--a "chain reaction," Via the chain, the watergate can be adjusted to direct the waters of a large brook into a lower one (as shown) or an upper one (not shown). Usually it is set to direct some water into both.

Be sure to check this spot out if you're visiting the Ottawa city. It's one of the best sunset spots in Ottawa, i.e., if you're into such sort of things... :D

I, for one, always have a great time here. I don't think I can ever grow bored with the view. Every evening, mother nature plays out a magical drama in the sky...

...Just grab yourself a latte and let mother nature show you how it's done! I bet, the colourful sky, texture in the clouds and that smooth motion of water--all will leave you mesmerized and gay... i meant 'happy'. lol

Dark matter (green) in our galaxy has been revealed for the first time, using a new imaging technique. The distortions in the bands of dark matter are caused by gravity waves. As expected, dark matter is present in enormous amounts. The large, bright objects in front of the dark matter are nearby stars. You can also see a few distant galaxies as irregular bright spots.

ACTUALLY, the dark matter is the algae on the bottom of a local water trough. Our view of it is distorted by ripples in the trough water surface. The "stars" and "galaxies" are just multiple reflections of our sun.

C'mon, we all see more outlandish image claims on the internet all the time. We don't even have to look on the Dark Web--just on Instagram.

I dunno why the owner of this garden has so many watering cans. There is a brook for filling the cans, just a couple of steps below them, there in the Autal. Sorry this is not a video. I don't do them much. But I am sure you get the idea. This young man had found out that a soccer ball will pick its altitude and then ride the water from a spout for at least a few seconds before losing its balance and falling to the ground. His audience liked watching this trick, and so did I.

This is a double-purpose photo.

1 - It lets me share the details of the pretty, brook-fed public watering trough, up the street from us, where the woods and pastures start.

2 - It poses a fluid dynamics question for any science and engineering types viewing this photo: Why does the little stream coming out of the pipe turn into a series of discrete drips on its way down to the trough? Please answer via a comment.

This "Wood-er* Fountain is the only all-wood fountain I have ever seen. I think it is quite pretty, and I have been meaning to post this photo of it for a long time.

Unlike a cast cement fountain, it appears it can be left full in winter without cracking when ice forms. This is likely because wood is so much more flexible and less brittle than cement.

In addition there is a mystery: Why is there a handle down at the bottom? Also, besides dates, what does the inscription say? It may be something in Romansch, Switzerland's fourth official language, still spoken by some in Graubünden.

*In addition to the play on words, "wooder" is pretty close to the way many natives of Philadelphia PA USA pronounce "water."
