Evidence of its cultivation in the Nile Valley has been found from the second millennium BC onward. Watermelon seeds have been found at Twelfth Dynasty sites and in the tomb of Pharaoh Tutankhamun.

This shop sells watermelons in summer, nuts and sweet potatoes in spring, autumn and winter.
I have photographed this shop several times (flic.kr/p/2k9umHz, flic.kr/p/2nAVgit) and was worried that the block where this shop was located would be demolished right away, as all the blocks around this one were demolished and it had become an island. Fortunately so far it still exists. But it's only a matter of time before it disappears.

While i was slicing a watermelon I notice the light on this piece and that it made a nice abstract. Happy Summer. It is cool and overcast here on the north California coast.
