This water storage is for fire fighting use and there were two ducks floating on the surface as I drove pass. I stopped, grabbed my camera and walked quietly back just in time to see the ducks disappear around the bend at the back. . . .probably quacking amongst themselves about "never been paid for posing for photos"
Artificial lake, created in 1965 on the Arges River it lies in the shadow of the Fagaras Mountains, with a length of 10,3 km and 2,2 km width, accumulating a total area of 870 ha
During my visit this year (Oct 2019), earth movers were busily working on new water impoundments along the Kern River Flood Canal just west of the Tule Elk State Natural Reserve near Tupman, California. The Kern River is usual dry with most of the water taken out of it updstream except in wet years that have high amounts of spring run off. The impounds at the end of the river along the flood canal allow for water storage during these wet years and, according to a geologist I talked to, needed groundwater recharge. The sizes of the equipment working on the project were impressive.

Lake Powell is a reservoir on the Colorado River, located in the U.S. states of Utah and Arizona. The second-largest reservoir in the United States after Lake Mead, it holds 30 cubic kilometers of water at full capacity. In 1972, Lake Powell and its surrounding areas became part of the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area.
n my hometown, there is a water reservoir used for generating electricity. This aerial photograph, taken during a magnificent sunset in September 2020, captures the reservoir in a stunning light atmosphere. The scene also reveals the rolling hills and the expansive floodplains of the River Pfreimd in the Upper Palatinate.
A pumped-storage reservoir stores water at a higher elevation to generate electricity. During times of high demand, the stored water is released to drive turbines and produce power. When demand is low, excess energy is used to pump water back into the reservoir.

Spillway of the Hinze Dam in the Gold Coast hinterland on a quiet afternoon. The Nerang River rises in the McPherson Range in the Numinbah Valley and feeds the dam. The overflow leads to the Gold Coast Broadwater at Southport.

The Quivertree, or Kokerboom, occurs sporadically throughout Namibia, usually on rocky slopes. Its name refers to its supposed use by the Bushmen for making quivers for their arrows. They are winter-flowering and the yellow blooms can be seen here.

Petra, originally known to its inhabitants as Raqmu or Raqēmō, is a historic and archaeological city in southern Jordan. It is adjacent to the mountain of Jabal Al-Madbah, in a basin surrounded by mountains forming the eastern flank of the Arabah valley running from the Dead Sea to the Gulf of Aqaba.

The Eendragtspolder, located between Rotterdam, Zevenhuizen and Rottemeren, is transformed into an area where water storage, nature, recreation and sports are combined. A new major rowing course has been given a prominent place in a water storage area of 300 hectares, giving room for four million m3 of temporarily water storage.

Tucked into desert canyons in southwestern Jordan, carved stone facades cover red sandstone walls, tens of meters high. Just inside the rock faces, benches line cavernous rooms hewn there thousands of years ago. The red rock walls ring the ancient city of Petra, where expert stonemasons made the monuments for gods, kings and wealthy citizens.
