i went to the beach this morning, and i did get some good shots, mostly of people fishing in the surf, bright sunshine, diamonds shimmering on the surface of the water, all the things you would expect on a sunny autumn mid-morning. no surfing though, and i can only make so many photographs of fishing before the urge to move becomes too strong to resist.

so i stopped on the river as i drove back home, and i found THIS!! all i can say is … i'm so glad that i left when i did and decided to stop and then cross the road before i left, and take both my wide angle and telephoto lenses, and … well, i think you get the idea. otherwise, no iron man footage to share with all my flickr friends. florida … what can i say?

surfing in newquay, cornwall

After a week of heavy rain the dam at Leixlip on the Liffey is opened to release pressure. The result is heaven for the local canoeists! This one was taken just below the Palmerstown weir, a few kilometres below the dam.

Il y a dans l’Atlantique une langue que je n’ai jamais oubliée. Celle du vent, des courants, des voix lointaines qui roulent sur l’horizon.

Chaque retour est une naissance — le sel sur les lèvres, la lumière dans les yeux, et ce sentiment d’appartenir à quelque chose d’immense et d’indomptable.

Je viens ici pour me souvenir de ce que je suis : un enfant de l’eau.

La mer n’a jamais cessé de m’appeler. Ses vagues sont des pulsations, des souvenirs d’enfance qui cognent doucement contre le rivage.

Dans ce tumulte fluide, je retrouve le calme — celui des origines, celui du souffle avant le cri.

Respirer, simplement, dans le rythme ancien de l’océan.

Là où la terre se termine, je redeviens entier.

Entre ciel et mer, le temps s’efface, ne reste que le mouvement, l’eau qui m’enveloppe, le vent qui me pousse.

Chaque vague me ramène un peu plus près de moi.

This weekend residents from all over So. California

protested the month-long closure of beaches, trails, and parks. Surfing is prohibited until the Governor decides to loosen the rules.

San Diego is a surfing community and surfers are passionate about their sport which many consider their religion, their way of being in touch with God. They consider it a safe sport where they are not in contact with anyone else.

The police have been issuing $1,000. fines to those who are unfortunate enough to be caught violating the rules. The protesters are growing in number and the weather is getting warmer. Meanwhile some surfers enthusiastic enough about their sport are taking a chance and pursuing their love of surfing.

I, however, considered high risk, remain (mostly) at home.

Kitesurfen is een vorm van watersport waarbij de sporter op een kleine surfplank staat en zich voort laat trekken door een kite (of: vlieger). Iemand die aan kitesurfen doet, wordt een kiter, kitesurfer of kiteboarder genoemd.

Er zijn zo van die dagen .. Dan ben je al vroeg op pad. Je laat de supplank te water, neemt de peddel ter hand en daar ga je. Op zo'n windstille morgen, is het water als een spiegel, kan geen golf je uit balans brengen. In alle stilte glijd je over de Ee door Woudsend. Bij zeilschool het Molenhuis overheerst dan nog de diepe rust. De boten liggen zij aan zij op de kant. Bij het naastgelegen omke Jan is al wel wat leven. De gasten zitten op het terras in de vroege ochtendzon aan het ontbijt. Opvarenden van aan de kade afgemeerde schepen laten zich niet zien en de brugwachter zit nog niet op zijn post. De lichten staan op dubbel rood. Mijn supplank doorsnijdt de weerspiegeling van de gevels. Ook bij restaurant de Watersport na de brug is de dag nog niet begonnen. Om het verstilde beeld van het deze zomer zo gezellig drukke dorp in me op te nemen kniel ik en ga zitten. Stilte voor de storm ... vamaf 9 uur wordt de brug bediend. Dan is het gedaan met de strakke reflecties. Ik neem gauw wat fotos en ga weer op huis aan. De verstilling blijft. In het weekend van 10 en 11september a.s., als Woudsend bruist van de activiteiten in het kader van het monumenten, muziek, toneel en meer festival mag ik mijn riet reflecties exposeren
