Seem's to be a thing here in the Illawarra, most of our most interesting bits of history are being left to rot/overgrow often placed in the 'too hard' basket.

Wollongong itself is dotted with many interesting and specacular locations that are on a limited life span.

'Hill 60' at Port Kembla is one such location - a similar installation at Newcastle is quite a popular tourist destination helping place Newcastle well on the tourist map what a pity Wollongong can't see past it's own retail interests to sort out it's front yard enough for people to find it worth the effort to pull over and have a look around.

This is a typical sight in the mechanic bays - trucks lined up to be fixed or have their regular maintenance.

Most of the mechanics have been here a good 20 years or more. They've come from all over the place - a couple from Western Waste, 3 from NEWCO, and the rest from WMX I believe. Our newest mechanic just came from the Athens Torrance shop.

A lot of the mechanics have told me some neat stories. One of the most interesting was back in the early 2000s when there was over 200 trucks here from all the mergers and acquisitions. They had some 25 mechanics here at the time. Most of the trucks were in horrible condition, primarily the Western Waste and WMX trucks. Some of the problems that the mechanics had to fix would last literally throughout the night - so any given mechanic would spend the entire night fixing a problem on one truck... and when you have a fleet of over 200, there are A LOT of trucks you need to either fix or maintain in one night. A particular truck they hated were the "autocans" (sorry Kevin :P) because of all the hoses they had. Apparently those broke down quite often unfortunately. With the new trucks, most mechanics can go through between 4-7 in a night depending on the problem.

Anyway, that's just one of the many stories I have to share. I remember seeing the old WMX and Western Waste FLs in these very same stalls years ago, and seeing all these trucks lined up brought back those great memories.

That rainy morning, I was driving on almost endless, winding gravel road in Canaan Down (Lord of the Rings scenery). An one-lane road, where it was impossible to pass. Thick fog just allowed just few meters view, so I was glad none came from the opposite side.

Wasted Time

Don Henley

So you live from day to day, and you dream about tomorrow, oh.

And the hours go by like minutes and the shadows come to stay

So you take a little something to make them go away

And I could have done so many things, baby

If I could only stop my mind from wonderin' what

I left behind and from worrying 'bout this wasted time

A few weeks ago, I took my beautiful daughter for a cycle in BiCentennial park Homebush. Had a great day, and also sussed out a few locations that looked quite promising. Anyhow, this week, decided to run a Focus shoot in there, to see what we'd get. Arrived to find the place covered in a thick fog, which was great. This log was well shot by all 5 of us on the shoot. A great subject and a stunning location. This place offers so many comps, and will look so different under different weather conditions also. This loc will be revisited many times for sure. This is a 3 shot pano.Hope you like "Wasted Time". Cheers Mikei

It's been three years since the apocalypse started in the USA. Some scientists had invented a new breed, specialised to defend the USA. The experiment went wrong, and a virus spread throughout the world. Everywhere people started turning into zombies. My parents have died by radiation, and my brother has been taken away by a gang of raiders. Now I'm alone in a wasted country...
