I always get caught between something frightening and something beautiful when I'm in a very old house.

This Lavandaria or wash basin was completed in 1818. It served as the original mission laundry. The Indians soaped the clothes on the sloping sides and rinsed them in the center!

The butterfly washhouse is, specific to the Causse de Limogne and owes its name to the “V” shape of the limestone slab in front of which the washerwoman knelt to beat her laundry. . In Aujols there are 20 aligned washbasins where each family used to use the same stone.

Wanted to photograph something dynamic in the bathroom rather than an object in closeup. The shower and the wash basin were my choice. I finally decided on the water swirling around and going down the washbasin for this week's Macro Monday . The water distorting the drain looked like art ! No post editing , natural shot !

Die Welt des Bibers ist extrem herausfordernd, er ist ständig naß und verschlammt. Für die meisten Säugetiere wäre das nichts, aber den Biber hat die Natur gut an seine Umgebung angepasst. Trotzdem bedarf es noch einiges an Aufwand zusätzlich zur "eingebauten" Optimierung. Man muss was man hat auch sorgfältig pflegen. Deshalb sieht man Biber wenn sie nicht gerade schwimmen oft dabei, wie sie sich putzen. Ein (vom Biber gefällter und) ins Wasser gestürzter Baum ist ein ideales Plätzchen dafür. Man sitzt sicher und trocken an einem riesen Waschbecken und kann in aller Seelenruhe an seinem guten Aussehen arbeiten. Apropos Optimierung und/oder gutes Aussehen: Seine Schneidezähne muss der Biber nicht extra putzen, die orange Färbung kommt von der Einlagerung von Eisen in den Zahnschmelz. Die Dinger sind deutlich härter als weiße Zähne.

The world of the beaver is extremely challenging; it is constantly wet and muddy. For most mammals, this would be unbearable, but nature has adapted the beaver well to its environment. Nevertheless, a lot of effort is required in addition to the ‘built-in’ optimisation. You have to take good care of what you have. That's why, when they're not swimming, you often see beavers grooming themselves. A tree (felled by a beaver and) fallen into the water is an ideal place for this. You can sit safely and dryly at a giant washbasin and work on your appearance almost undisturbed and in peace.

Speaking of adaption to the environment and/or good looks: beavers do not need to brush their teeth. The orange colouring of its incisors is due to the accumulation of iron in their enamel. These teeth are significantly harder than white teeth.
