A pillbox is a type of blockhouse, or concrete dug-in guard-post, often camouflaged, normally equipped with loopholes through which defenders can fire weapons. It is in effect a trench firing step, hardened to protect against small-arms fire and grenades, and raised to improve the field of fire.
The modern concrete pillbox originated on the Western Front of World War I, in the German Army[1] in 1916.....This one was seen at Kilnsea near Spurn Point on the River Humber .

Im Laufe des Zweiten Weltkriegs erhielt das Münster Symbolcharakter für beide Parteien. Adolf Hitler, der es am 28. Juni 1940 besichtigte, wollte aus dem Sakralbau ein „Nationalheiligtum des deutschen Volkes“ machen. Am 2. März 1941 schworen sich Generalmajor Leclerc und die Soldaten seiner Division in Kufra (in Libyen), die „Waffen erst dann niederzulegen, wenn unsere schönen Farben wieder auf der Straßburger Kathedrale wehen“ („Le serment de Koufra“, Der Schwur von Koufra). Diesen Schwur erfüllten sie am 23. November 1944. Am 11. August 1944 erlitt das Gebäude Schäden, als es von britischen und amerikanischen Fliegerbomben getroffen wurde, endgültig behoben wurden diese erst 1990. "

Situated in the hamlet of Wartime, this water tower was originally used to fill the reservoirs of the steamer engines on the adjacent CNR track.
Now owned by the Wartime Water Company, it is used to load tanks of water for farm and household use. This facility is reputed to be the last functioning railway water tower left in the province.

Fresh from overhaul, 4498 "Sir Nigel Gresley" briefly wore LNER 'Wartime Black' before being repainted into BR Experimental Blue. Here, it passes Tenbury Wall working the 17:05 Kidderminster to Bridgnorth during the Severn Valley Railway's Spring 2022 Gala.
Seen on the North Pier at Bridlington, It is owned by the Shipwreck Mariners Society and is now used as a collection box. It has recently just been re-painted,
