Rev 12:7
And there was war in heaven:
Michael and his angels fought agains the dragon;
and the dragon fought and his angels,
And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven.

VIETNAM WAR
The Vietnam War had important repercussions for Canada at home and abroad.
Though Canada did not send any combat troops to Vietnam, the war affected and divided Canadians. Some Canadians volunteered to fight in the US army while others protested in the streets for peace. Canada provided sanctuary for American draft-dodgers while Canadian companies produced billions of dollars of goods for the American war effort.
As the war drew to a close, Canada also participated in an ill-fated peacekeeping mission to oversee the transition to peace. In 1973 the International Commission of Control and Supervision (ICCS) was established to assist in the implementation of the Paris Peace Accords. Canada was only a member of the ICCS for six months (during the American withdrawal). Canada pulled out of the mission ahead of schedule, frustrated that neither side was abiding by the terms of the peace agreement.
Following the collapse of South Vietnam in 1975, 500,000 Vietnamese fled their homeland, half of these by sea. Some nations turned away these "Boat People," but Canada chose to accept thousands.
A grass-roots movement spread across the country in order to assist the integration of Vietnamese refugees into Canada. In Ottawa Mayor Marion Dewar created Project 4000, which matched up Canadian citizens with new immigrants to serve as sponsors. The sponsors helped the newcomers adjust to everyday Canadian life.
By the end of 1980 over 60,000 Indochinese refugees had arrived in Canada. Today these immigrants have become part of their adoptive communities wherever they live across Canada.

KIRKEE WAR CEMETERY was created to receive Second World War graves from the western and central parts of India where their permanent maintenance could not be assured. The cemetery contains 1,668 Commonwealth burials of the Second World War. The KIRKEE MEMORIAL stands within the cemetery and commemorates more than 1,800 servicemen who died in India during the First World War, who are buried in civil and cantonment cemeteries in India and Pakistan where their graves can no longer be properly maintained. This total includes the names of 629 servicemen whose remains were brought from Bombay (Sewri) Cemetery for re-interment here in 1960. On the same memorial are commemorated almost 200 East and West African servicemen who died in non-operational zones in India in the Second World War, and whose graves either cannot be located or are so situated that maintenance is not possible.

The village's War Memorial at Bisham was designed by the well-known sculptor Eric Gill (1882 - 1940). It was principally erected in memory of Lieut. Commander Frederick Septimus Kelly DSC who served in Gallipoli and on the Western Front with the Naval Division. An Australian who was educated at Eton and Balliol College Oxford, Kelly was a talented pianist whose musical genius was overshadowed by his prowess as an oarsman. He was a triple Diamond Sculls winner at Henley and was in the gold medal winning Great Britain eight man crew at the 1908 London Olympics. In March 1915 he left for Gallipoli in the company of the poet Rupert Brooke with whom he formed a friendship. Brooke died en route from septicaemia in April 1915 and Kelly was present at his funeral. Just before the Hood Battalion sailed for Gallipoli he began work on a musical elegy to Rupert Brooke. Kelly was wounded twice at Gallipoli, where he was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross. He died in the last days of the Battle of the Somme on 13th November 1916 and lies in Martinsart's Cemetery not far from where he fell at the age of 35. This war memorial dedicated to his memory is at Bisham in Berkshire close by Bisham Abbey which is now a National Sports Centre where many elite sportsmen and Olympians have trained.

What is lovely never dies,
But passes into other loveliness,
Star-dust, or sea foam, flower or winged air.

This catholic war memorial is for WWI and WWII. It features a crucifix, an ironc cross and on either side, lists of the dead. One side is from WWI and the other side is from WWII.
This memorial made me feel uneasy. It's a right and a responsibility to memorialize your war dead, but the God-and-Country nature of it made me wonder if the postwar re-education part of the reconstruction and denazification process possibly skipped some small towns.
Beautifully laid out and impeccably maintained, the seaside cemetery at Alimos for British and Commonwealth troops killed defending Greece against Nazi invasion and its aftermath in the 1940's.
A sobering companion to the German War Cemetery on the other side of the mountains.
Isn't war crazy?
