With their Squadron radio call-sign 'War Party' - US Navy McDonnell-Douglas F/A-18A Hornet 164657/AJ405 of VFA-87 'Golden Warriors' - from the Aircraft Carrier USS John F. Kennedy lined up with another squadron machine plus several other 'Air-Wing' stablemates at the RNAS Yeovilton 'Air Day' on 13th July 1996
Yeovilton's static park looked more like a scene from 'Top Gun' that day as there were no less than:
4 x F-14 Tomcats,
6 x FA-18 Hornets,
3 x S-3 Vikings and
2 x E-2 Hawkeyes all holed up here due to their 'Mother' ship 'allegedly' being fog-bound in the Irish Sea when they tried to get back aboard her!
A great excuse if ever there was one as the most any British Air Show could attract was maybe one or two items form our friends in the US Navy.
Mind you, with 15 of their aircraft at the show, that still left some 40 plus aircraft on board of which 25 we saw that evening as by then she was moored up in Stokes Bay, off Portsmouth, being replenished and then waiting for her 'chicks' to return when the moment was right once heading back out in the Western approaches.
More of these beauties to follow.

... and the ghosts of war...
Taken during this morning's ceremony at the Vietnam War Memorial Wall traveling exhibit along the Rock River in Beloit.
Due to the smoke pot and rainy conditions, I couldn't really see what I was doing. I got this by way of lucky accident.
The next stop for this exhibit is Brookfield, Wisconsin.
Early 20th century window in St Laurence's church, Brundall, Norfolk. An unusual war memorial window in that it is dedicated to two brothers , Percy and Leslie Dandridge , who didn't actually live in Brundall and do not appear on the village war memorial plaque. It was paid for by Ethel Mary ffiske ( née Dandridge) their sister.
Alfred Percy Dandridge was killed on the Somme on August 6th 1916. He was a Lance Corporal in the King's Royal Rifle Corps and died aged 29. His grave is in Abbéville Communal Cemetery.
William Leslie Dandridge, a Lieutenant in the RAMC, died on October 5th 1918 and his grave is in Haringhe (Bandghem) Military Cemetery.

The Kranji War Cemetery (Malay: Tanah Perkuburan Perang Kranji) is located in Kranji, Singapore, and is the final resting place for Allied soldiers who perished during the Battle of Singapore and the subsequent Japanese occupation of the island from 1942–1945 and in other parts of Southeast Asia during World War II.
The Kranji area was previously a military camp. At the time of the Japanese invasion of Malaya, the area was in use as an ammunition magazine. After the fall of Singapore, the Japanese established a prisoner-of-war camp at Kranji and a hospital nearby at Woodlands. After the war, In 1946, it was decided that Kranji would be designated as Singapore's War Cemetery so the small cemetery at Kranji was developed into a permanent war cemetery and subsequently war graves from Buona Vista, Changi, and other cemeteries were removed and re-interred at Kranji.
There are 4,461 World War II casualties buried or commemorated at this cemetery, of which more than 850 of these are unidentified. There are 64 World War I headstones, of which three commemorate casualties known to have been buried elsewhere but whose graves could not be found on concentration.
Colin St Clair Oakes designed the Singapore Memorial and the War Cemetery, and the memorial was unveiled on 2 March 1957 by Sir Robert Black, who was a former a prisoner of war of the Japanese and at the time of the unveiling was then the Governor and Commander-in-Chief, Singapore.
Kranji provides a peaceful and serene resting place for those who have given their lives for their country and the nationalities honored reflect the rich heritage of Singapore. The site is a poignant reminder of the price of freedom.
"Recently, the US military launched a small offensive to help India in their war efforts. There are reports of American troops burning Chinese rice farms to create food shortages. More on the story later tonight, now to Larry with the weather."
Yep, I'm trying to kick it off, my new group. Link: www.flickr.com/groups/1670798@N20/

Just a little further down Pall Mall and using the tripod with legs collapsed (as I did for the last one for a different perspective) a front of view of the war museum.

Admiral Sir Bertram Ramsay (1883-1945) was the Royal Navy's foremost expert in amphibious warfare during the Second World War. Working from the underground tunnels beneath Dover Castle, he was responsible for Operation Dynamo, the Dunkirk evacuation which rescued 338,000 British and allied troops trapped in France by German forces in 1940.
As Naval Commanding Officer, Eastern Task Force, Ramsay prepared the amphibious landings during the Allied invasion of Sicily in July 1943. A year later, as Commander-in-Chief of the Allied Naval Expeditionary Force, he oversaw Operation Neptune, the naval contribution to the invasion of Normandy. This is still regarded as the greatest amphibious operation in history. He was killed in a plane crash on 2 January 1945.
This statue, commemorating the man and his achievements, is in the grounds of Dover Castle and overlooks the English Channel - where, perhaps, he had his finest hour.
Bristol's last four surviving Civil War veterans, May 30, 1926 in front of the West Cemetery Civil War monument.
From left to right are: George H. Bates, George B. Chapin, Walter H. Hutchinson, and Edward H. Allen.
The brownstone monument was dedicated in 1866, less than a year after the end of the Civil War.
SOLDIERS MONUMENT, Bristol, is significant historically because of its early date, January 20, 1866. The selectmen were authorized to buy the land the previous year, dating the monument's origins from 1865. It is one of the first Civil War monuments in Connecticut.
Josiah F. Peck, Sr., a prominent Bristol citizen, organized the committee for the monument. He may have been motivated by the fact that four members of the Peck family, Albert C., Noble, Richard L., and Henry A. Peck, served in Bristol's Company I, 25th Regiment, Connecticut Volunteers, one of the units named on the monument. Josiah F. Peck, Sr., purchased the site, furnished transportation for the monument, and paid James G. Batterson, the supplier, $1,500. In addition, there was widespread support from small contributors; the Bristol Public Library has 17 small notebooks listing individual "Subscriptions of $1.00 no more no less."
It is an early example of the obelisk-type Civil War monument with lettering of men lost and battles engaged, modestly embellished with trophies. It is essentially a cemetery monument, typical of funerary art of the time, on a large scale.
This overall design was to continue for about two decades, before being gradually supplanted by more sophisticated and elaborate designs. The supplier of the monument, James G. Batterson of Hartford, at the end of the Civil War built up his cemetery monument business purposefully and efficiently to become a major producer of Civil War monuments.
The monument is a square tapered brownstone column made up of stylobate of three risers, pedestal, and shaft. It is crowned by a brownstone eagle, which faces east. The cornice at the top of the shaft carries an egg-and-dart molding. The east face of the shaft is decorated with two trophies, in addition to the three bands of lettering naming battles in which the memorialized soldiers fought. The lower trophy is a pair of shields encircled by swags. The upper trophy is a composition of crossed flags, musket, and sword with a cartridge box hanging from the musket.

These photos were actually taken in 2012. It was a hot summer in a biggest city on east of Ukriane. Girls were getting more and more naked and guys were sweating under their jeans. Grass-plots in the city were turning greyish yellow but in a countryside all the fields of wheat were already gold.
I came for a few weeks with my son to see my parents and to spend vacation in their summer cottage nearby Sviatohirsk. Euro 2012 has finished just a month ago and all the people were very excited about that event. Donetsk was full of ukrainian blue and yellow flags waving everywhere (a perfect color combination btw). It was so clean and beautiful and full of love as it has never been before.
It was less then two years before the war has started. Invaders brought it into this peaceful land and poisoned it. Now there's no way for people like me to get back to the city we love. To the city i was born in and grew up and spent all my youth. All what's left are the sweet memories of those light-hearted days. I know for sure i will never forgive those who are guilty for this artificial fratricidial war. Never in my life!

Happy New Year everyone !
It has been a while since I posted anything because I'm not invested in Lego as much as I used to be :)
While I was watching The Rise of Skywalker for the second time earlier today, I had the idea for this lightsaber hilt. It's a custom design, but I think I saw something quite similar in The Clone Wars once.
