"Long ago, our peoples waged a great war against each other, a war that raged for so long that most people forgot what they were fighting over. I was a Matoran then, but soon, my bravery was noticed and I was selected to become a Toa of Stone..."

Ever since I first posted her, Virse has consistently been one of the most favorited MOCs in my gallery, both here and on DA. But she wasn't always a level-headed Toa of Sand. Once, she was a young, novice Toa of Stone whose heartlight burned with the youthful adrenaline of war. She was known as a short-tempered captain who tolerated no mistakes in herself or those under her command. It wasn't until she met an ancient Turaga of Sand that she was able to come to terms with herself and learned that even the hardest stone must be allowed to crumble.

With over 21,000 inhabitants, Waren is the main town on the Müritz and a centre of the Mecklenburg Lake District holiday region. The largely well-preserved old town with many historical buildings, the Müritzeum Nature Experience Centre, the Müritz Saga Festival, The town port and the regional nature are important attractions. In addition to tourism, the food industry and mechanical engineering are also important economic sectors. The world market leader for large ship propellers, Mecklenburger Metallguss, is based in Waren.

The Müritz, probably from Slavic "small sea", cf. Lower Sorbian mórjo, Polish morze, "sea") is the largest lake entirely within Germany. Lake Constance is larger, but Austria and Switzerland also have shares in it. In 1990, the Müritz National Park was designated as a protected area covering 322 km² on the eastern shore of the Müritz, with unique flora and fauna in places.

There are 176 names of the men from Conisbrough, who died fighting in WWI.

As if Major General James Wolfe didn't have enough problems at Quebec, his statue at Greenwich later received the attention of the Luftwaffe.

Black Panther: Vengeance has consumed you. It's consuming them. I'm done letting it consume me. Justice will come soon enough.

This is Warwick’s War Memorial, a thin stone pinnacle Eleanor Cross that stands in front of the old library. During the First World War, the names of those killed were written on large wooden plaques and attached to the railings of St Mary’s churchyard in Church Street. After the war, a committee was formed to decide on a permanent tribute. Some 36 feet tall, it was constructed in Portland stone by the Birmingham Guild and Bridgeman and Co. builders of Lichfield. The design was by C. E. Bateman and has brass plaques at the base and a series of carved arches above, with carved shields of Warwickshire’s principal towns. It also shows the Swan of Avon, the Dun Cow, the Bear and Ragged Staff, and the Antelope, emblem of the Royal Warwickshire Regiment. Although the main inscription reads, ‘To the memory of the men of Warwick who gave their lives in the Great War’, when it was unveiled in 1921, it listed 358 men and 1 woman.

After the Second World War the Royal British Legion collected the names of the service personnel from Warwick who had lost their lives and plaques were added listing 95 names, unveiled in 1951. In subsequent years more names have been added, and there are now 112 WW2 service personnel from Warwick honoured on the memorial.

(An Eleanor Cross, I discover, is one modelled on the 12 erected by Edward I following the death of his wife Eleanor in 1290. Each one marks a place where she stayed overnight on her final journey, and they stretch from Lincoln down to Charing in London where her journey began (and now, of course, named Charing Cross). Apparently her organs (minus her heart) were buried in Lincoln, the heart buried at the Dominican priory at Blackfriars, and her body buried in Westminster Abbey.)

The 22 bronze figures, representing the eleven branches of the Canadian forces engaged in the First World War

The National War Memorial (titled The Response) is a tall, granite memorial arch with accreted bronze sculptures in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, designed by Vernon March and first dedicated by King George VI in 1939. Originally built to commemorate the Canadians who died in the First World War, it was in 1982 rededicated to also include those killed in the Second World War and Korean War and again in 2014 to add the dead from the Second Boer War and War in Afghanistan, as well as all Canadians killed in all conflicts past and future. It now serves as the pre-eminent war memorial of 76 cenotaphs in Canada. In 2000, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier was added in front of the memorial and symbolizes the sacrifices made by all Canadians who have died or may yet die for their country.

Seaham war memorial, North Terrace, Seaham, County Durham, North East England. . . Tommy 1101. A sculpture by Ray Lonsdale.. .

A war-weary Tommy sits thoughtfully, head bowed, rifle in hand, as he reflects upon the sheer horror of World War One during the first minute after peace was declared in 1918.

This imposing metal sculpture, entitled 1101, owing to the fact the armistice went into effect at 11am on November 11, 1918, stands 9ft 5ins tall and weighs 1.2 tonnes.

Built out of special corteen steel, it has been installed on Seaham seafront in Country Durham to mark the centenary of the start of the Great War and will remain in place for three months.

Created by local artist Ray Lonsdale, the sculpture is also intended to represent Post Traumatic Stress Disorder which many of the returning soldiers endured. Mr Lonsdale got his idea for the piece after hearing a story about a soldier from nearby Murton who won a war medal.
