The corner of a small card wallet

Too good to pass up.

I have to tell you about Dave. Not my brother Dave - you know about him already if you've been reading these adventures and keeping notes. I'm referring of course to the other Dave - the one who procures a wadge of tickets for rugby internationals in exchange for spending half his spare time volunteering at his local club and tells me to stand outside my house and wait to be collected on the evening before the game. On such evenings we will head just past Plymouth to Gareth's house where we will always have a Chinese takeaway before heading to Twickenham the next morning. Dave and Gareth have been doing this in metronome like fashion since they were teenagers in 1972. Greater quantities of beer than I'm used to or are good for me are generally involved. It's a routine I always look forward to, even though I'm a lifelong football nut and only have the vaguest grasp on what's going on in between those strange H shaped posts during the big match. Somehow I've been inveigled into their gang by stealth. I feel like the slightly younger clueless looking one on "Last of the Summer Wine." Apologies if you're not from the UK or you're under 45 as that last statement isn't going to mean anything to you.

Dave likes music as well. Because he's twelve years older than me he's seen all the bands I love the most. He was there to see the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Keith Moon and John Bonham before they succumbed to their excesses. Just recently he shared with me a poster from the Bath Blues and Rock festival of 1970 where he saw among others, Led Zeppelin, Santana and Pink Floyd. Gareth usually went with him to events such as this so I tend to get the stories in stereo to make me even more envious of their superior vintages. Sometimes I wish he just wouldn't tell me stuff like this. I was only 4 and my parents wouldn't have let me go anyway. Besides which I hadn't fully familiarised myself with all of their albums at that stage. I was still busy getting to grips with Bill and Ben.

Dave is a useful person to know, but at the same time I've become accustomed to knowing that his call will result in substantial amounts of open wallet surgery, in exchange for which I will be entertained. One day he told me to book a long weekend because we were off to see the Foo Fighters at the Olympic Stadium in London. Flights, accommodation, river trips and a Billy Idol concert the following night in Brixton cost me the price of a decent second hand L lens, but it was three days I won't forget in a hurry.

Two days later, with a head full of tunes and a soul full of memories from as fantastic weekend as it's possible to achieve with two men in their mid 60's, I looked outside the window as the plane came in to land at Newquay. The sky was doing beautiful things and I was stuck in the air. I sighed as I gazed at an intense orange sunset through the plate glass window.

So the following evening, Lee, Dave - my brother Dave this time - and I headed to Bedruthan and watched the sun disappear behind a bank of cloud in an unpromising sky. We looked at each other doubtfully and groaned about having missed the previous evening. But as in the song, just as you think it's all over and you're about to head for the pub, something happens in the sky and suddenly it was all worthwhile. Well those aren't the exact words to the song but, you know.....

30 year old wallet, been in my pocket every day for those 30 years.

Macro Mondays - Wallet

The theme for Macro Monday this week is 'wallet'. Hmmm: my wallet is a bit crappy. My first thought: is a sporran a wallet? Chat GPT says it sort of is, as it can be used for the same function. And they are much more interesting than a 'conventional' wallet. And is an e-wallet a wallet? Chat GPT thinks that's a great question. Well, I tried to be clever. I missed the last two weeks of Macro Monday. Last week the theme was "Motion Blur", so I thought, what if I picture a wallet with the motion blur of a money note being pulled from it? But then I remembered I also missed the previous week when the theme was "Tile", but strange as I might be, I never carry tiles in my wallet. So I'll go back to just 'wallet'. And the English have enough jokes about Scots never opening their wallets. I just know SkyeWeasel is going to have snails emerging from a closed and locked wallet! Mind you it's not often I actually find some cash in my wallet. Who carries cash anymore? I was actually disappointed to find there were no moths in my wallet. That would have made a picture..........

Anyhow, my wallet is old, creased, cracked and crappy. It's not a fashion item, it's not a thing of beauty: few will ever see it! I think it may have been made of pig skin/leather. It holds my driving licence, credit and debit cards and any bank notes, if I have any. And that's it, apart from the odd receipt or business card I may collect along the way. I never carry it in my trouser pocket, always in an inside jacket pocket. I'm quite aware of pick pockets, having had a close shave with some in Prague

I made this wallet from a tutorial over at That Darn Cat The tutorial was really easy to follow and I only used scraps I had around the house, making my project totally free! I originally saw this project made by someone on Threadbanger! Thanks for the tip on this great tutorial!

I made a few changes including doing a hand sewn binding instead of flipping the wallet inside out, using a button closure and using cotton batting instead of fusible fleece for strength.

A corner of the wallet I have been carrying for the last 35 years. It has developed a wonderful patina and is so familiar that I don't notice that there is no pull on the zipper and some of the stitching is fraying.

A Macro Mondays submission on the topic "wallet"

Ok, here's the updated version with the interior. I thought it would be cool if you can make some wallets this way, then flip everything and make some the other way...if it's not too much work.

A wallet submission for Tinymeatâ„¢. I'm planning on painting a "aa" battery themed one, but thought I'd try with this vector based piece in the meantime.

This tested me as I had to make it up as I went along, I combined three tutorials to get just what I think my partner would like. Note...unfortunately contents are not included :o)

I've written some measurements you might find helpful up on my blog here:-

This #wallet is my Father's day gift from my daughter. Thanks to @carita for proposing a theme that help me shot this wonderful wallet. HMM!

finally finished those cute tea wallets. 4 of them are already on the way to their new home:)

20250704_5088_R62-100 My first wallet

I got this embossed leather wallet about 1969-70. At the time my mother worked as a leather machinist for the small company making them. I did a few days working there one school holidays operating the leather embossing machine. Whether I embossed the leather for this wallet I cannot remember. The embossing on this (well worn and no longer used) wallet shows a NZ Maori Warrior.

The locking dome is showing verdigris.

Another photo in my stream (see first comment below) shows a telephone book cover also made in the same factory. The top left embossing is the Maori warrior that is on my old wallet.

Who doesn't like cupcakes?

Do you like cupcakes?

This cute and soft felt cupcake wallet will hold your money, cards, keys and receipts. The cupcake is made of felt with a pink dotted cotton lining.

Now available in my shop.

My very old and well worn wallet.

The finished wallet with hardware added.

It's interesting what you notice when you take a closer look. My wife's wallet needs cleaning! :-)

A new wallet design. Kind of a mash-up of all my other designs.

My wallet has many more cards than bank notes in it. It also has chain to attach the wallet to my belt to make it a bit more difficult to lose.

Wallet for Macro Mondays

I finally have some of the Strike up the band and Paper Boats wallets that I designed for Tinymeat for sale in my Etsy shop!

My latest handmade wallet.

I've found the pattern in the local craft board, and made it.

It's very practical and useful, even though it's a kind of difficult in sewing.

I plan that I will use this fabric to make a matched card holder and mobile phone bag for myself too.

I hate carrying a purse, so in the winter when I have lots of pockets I'd much rather carry my little wallet. It's just big enough to hold my driver license, a couple credit cards and some cash for small purchases or tips.
