Looking for Tree Sparrows this Owl popped out which was a surprise for both of us. Near Wallula, WA.

I really should call this "foggy noon" because it was closer to lunch than morning. I'm learning the fog in Walla Walla in the winter can go on all day long, sometimes for days.

I snapped this shot really quickly on my phone, looking down the alley where they built these funky power line structures across the road. I thought the perspective, fading off into the fog, gave it an almost apocalyptic kind of feel.

And looked, with admiration on...

My silly-little dance.

Here we can see the Alula feathers. This is a thumb like digit that can project a small group of feathers off the leading edge of the wing. Seems there is still scientific debate and its exact uses but it is cool to see here. I don't get photos of them very oftern.

Since I haven't been able to get out to take new photos, I have been revisiting some old published photos as well as digging through the archives to see what I can accomplish with Nik Software. I am only beginning to get a handle on it, but it certainly helps me get closer to my original perception of the shot.
