Anemone x hybrida 'Serenade' WW34 Anemone Y0- (Windflower) Japanese Anemone Windflower, Mature plant size: 24in., PINK, Pink single, USDA Hardiness Zone 4, Michigan Bloom Week ISO WW33, In Garden Bed Y0 for 14.2 YEARS (9.95). Planted in 2008.

Max Vogel' and 'Serenade' have similar pink flowers with 10 to 15 narrow, overlapping tepals surrounding a yellow, globe-like center of anthers. Bloom periods average ~60 days. Strong stalks, no flopping. After a few years, they reach 4 foot tall.

2020 notes: 4-5 feet tall. Spreads rather aggressively. I have this planted in a somewhat shady area, so maybe this accounts for its height. A late summer bloomer. Chicago Botanic Garden did an evaluation of Anemones in 2004. The top 3 in their trials were ‘Andrea Atkinson’, ‘Max Vogel’ and ‘Serenade’. I have all three.

Hydrangea arborescens 'Annabelle' WW34 Smooth D1- (McDaniels, Univ of Illinois, 1910) Smooth Hydrangea or wild hydrangea, Mature plant size: 4x4ft., Tiny white fertile flowers corymbs 2-6in. across, USDA Hardiness Zone 3-9, Michigan Bloom Week ISO WW24, In Garden Bed D1 for 4.0 YEARS (Lowes). Planted in 2018.

'Annabelle' is a nature cultivar that was discovered ~1910 in the wild near Anna, (Southern) Illinois. Plantsman J.C.McDaniels from the University of Illinois named it and promoted it for its extremely large flowers (corymbs) which are considerably larger than the species. It is probably the most grown cultivar of smooth hydrangea. It blooms on new wood, so it is quite hardy. It can be cut to the ground in late winter to promote plant vigor.

National Gardenig Association, member luis_pr: These grew like weeds in my old Atlanta, Georgia stomping grounds. I would add to the description: can wilt a lot when hot so keep it well mulched. And add some wire around it to help support the heavy stems when the blooms get wet. I had to put mine in a full but very bright shady spot so they get limited watering from rains. Will propagate via suckers too so plantings tend to get "wider" as the years pass.

Digging Dog Nursery: Its compact habit and fine textured foliage make this one of the most popular Pennisetum cultivars. The foliar mound is very upright and dome-shaped, hosting blades that are darker than most Pennisetum alopecuroides. Appearing earlier than others in the species, a slew of plump woolly, slightly curved, creamy green flower heads, arching at least a foot aloft, are borne on wiry slender stems. Monrovia: A gorgeous new panicle hydrangea, on a much more compact form. Sturdy stems support big, full flower heads that start out white and mature to a delectable pink. The long-lasting blooms are superb in fresh or dried arrangements. A summer show-stopper for containers, or use as a foundation shrub in smaller gardens. Deciduous. Spring Meadow Nursery, Inc.

2020 Note: Bloomed in mid JUly (white), blooms fading to brown mid August. Many of my other panicle hydrangeas opened later and are still white. Nice compact mounded ball of flowers.

Daylily Steeple Jackie - 60" L D F 3 ½" bloom. Trumpet shaped light canary yellow flowers are produced in clusters of 3-4 on 7-way branched scapes carrying a whopping total of 55-100 buds a piece. The scapes rise high above the clump of slender, green leaves.

Flowers are small and scapes are thin. However, have not had any "wind" problems. I guess I would call it tall and delicate. Was not up to the registered 60" in the second year (2019). 48" tall in 2020. Late August bloom, very late.

It is marketed under the trade name of Invincibelle® Spirit II as a better pink 'Annabelle' type hydrangea. It was released ~6 years after the original Invincibelle® Spirit and supposedly has darker foliage, stronger stems, and larger flowers that are a darker pink that ages to green. (PP28316, 2016).

Solaris Farms: Fire Fountain. Bremer. 2011. Dormant. 60"-8.5". 5 branches. 23 buds. ML. Extremely tall bright red with wide yellow throat, great branching and stout scapes. We seldom have much of this one due to constant sales. ((Ravenous x Springfield Clan) x B.J. McMillen).

2020 Notes: Planted 12 months ago. Last year I planted 49 new daylilies. Of the 49, Fire Fountain is one of the most vigorous. I purchased it from directly (mail order) from the breeder, Nate Bremer (Solaris Farms). It was a very large 2 fan root ball. After a year in the ground, it is 54 inches tall, scapes are thick at 1/3 inch diameter and flowers are 9 inches wide. One outstanding specimen. 2021 notes: Some of the scapes splay, has a long booming time. Last bloom in late August.
