Epic Design - Assignment One

Okay, so, onto the flickr bandwagon! This is a picture I made to demonstrate the shatter effect through photoshop. I'm really happy with how it came out, even if it was reasonably quick due to the lack of shading/hair drawing, etc.

Here is the process: i703.photobucket.com/albums/ww31/honeyface_x/assignment1p...

Sim is my model, Atlanta.

Title Lyrics from Battlefield- Jordin Sparks [along with Silly Boy- Eva Simmons were on repeat while I was editing this picture]

Kaori Mori. Japan’s Next Top Model. Round Zero.

Oh lawd, that is one sharp image, it looks better on the thread :x

Did this pic ages ago but have been lazy and haven’t uploaded it to flickr. Plus, I wanted to make sure it was just right before sending it in. Spent years on this thing I swear, hopefully it pays off since I have had a serious editing block for these past few weeks (like bottom two/ three in every contest I have been in) so yeah, I’m just hoping to get through this week. My original aim was for 10th to 15th callout, but looking at the pictures I’d be shocked just to get through.

Yay! Got the links to work! For those who care:

Full Size. Original. Reference/ Inspiration.

Hydrangea paniculata 'Limelight' WW31 Panicle N4- (Zwijnenburg, NL 2001) Panicle Hydrangea, Mature plant size: 7x7ft., Flowers emerge creamy white, mature to chartreuse-lime and eventually acquire pink-darkening-to-rose tones before finally fading to beige, USDA Hardiness Zone 3-8, Michigan Bloom Week ISO WW27, In Garden Bed N4 for 22 MONTHS (Lowes). Planted in 2020.

Missouri Botanical Garden: ‘Limelight’ is a slightly more compact cultivar that typically grows to 6-8’ tall and as wide. It is noted for producing large, dense, upright, cone-shaped panicles (to 8” across) of mostly sterile flowers that change color on the shrub as they mature. Flowers emerge creamy white, mature to chartreuse-lime and eventually acquire pink-darkening-to-rose tones before finally fading to beige. As the flower show fades in fall, the oval to ovate, serrate, dark green leaves (to 4” long) turn attractive shades of red. Panicles may be cut for fresh arrangements or for drying, or may be left on the plant where they will persist well into winter. U.S. Plant Patent PP12,874 issued on August 20, 2002.

Michael Dirr: Limelight’ (‘Lime Light’) is promoted as producing bright lime-green flowers, however, as I observed it at Dudley Nursery, Thomson, Georgia, the flowers simulated those of ‘Grandiflora’. Sepals are white with smaller, more uniform inflorescences; I suspect the heat of Zone 7 results in the expression of white.

Condon confirms the white color in his Nantucket,

Massachusetts, garden. Stems were weak with inflorescences, producing a weeping willow effect on the container-grown plants. Promos state flowers are fresh green in 10- to 12-inch-long, 6- to 7-inch-wide panicles, held on Limelight1 strong stems, grows 6 to 10 feet, 5 to 6 feet wide, rounded shrub, moderate grower. Hybridized by Pieter Zwijnenburg.

Allium 'Serendipity' WW31 Hybrid Allium U0- (McDonough) Hybrid Allium, Mature plant size: 20in., Purple, USDA Hardiness Zone 5-7, Michigan Bloom Week ISO WW31, In Garden Bed U0 for 22 MONTHS (Lowes). Planted in 2020.

Missouri Botanical Garden:'Serendipity' features blue-tinged foliage and was discovered as a sport of the hybrid ornamental onion Allium 'Millenium'. Globe-shaped inflorescences of purple flowers reaching 1.5-2" in diameter are held above the foliage on sturdy stems in mid to late summer. The flowers are suitable for fresh cut arrangements. Mature clumps will reach up to 1.75' tall and 1.5' wide. Bulb rot may occur in overly moist soils. Watch for mildew, rust and leaf spots. Thrips are an occasional problem. Deer and rabbits tend to avoid this plant.

2020 note:Sport. 1 gallon pot from Lowes, $10. A Proven Winners selection.

Dahlia 'Bluetiful' 8/2021 dahlia- (Swan Island 2010) Purple dahlia, Mature size: 3.5’, BB-ID-PR Class(3109), USDA Hardiness Zone 8, Michigan Bloom Week ISO WW31, In Garden Bed V2,06,3 for 85 DAYS (swan21). Planted in 2021.

Swan Island: Bluetiful 6” Blue lavender, some would say periwinkle; blooms are ruffled and fancy-free. This is a very compact and study plant of 3 ½’. Great cut flower and a real eye catcher! As close to blue as you can get with a dahlia. This is a dahlia that all of us here at Swan Island Dahlias grow in our yards - A " Gitts" family favorite!

Allium 'Millenium' WW31 ornamental onion G4- (McDonough) ornamental onion, Mature plant size: 20in., Purple, USDA Hardiness Zone 5-7, Michigan Bloom Week ISO WW31, In Garden Bed G4 for 6.1 YEARS (MBulb). Planted in 2016.

Missouri Botanical Garden: 'Millenium', commonly called allium, is a bulbous ornamental hybrid developed by allium breeder Mark McDonough. Its hybrid parentage is unknown, but likely includes some A. nutens. Each bulb typically produces an upright foliage clump of slender, somewhat flattened, broad linear, grass-like, glossy deep green leaves to 6-12” tall in spring. Unbranched naked scapes rise above the foliage clump to as much as 18-20” tall by mid-summer, each scape being topped by a showy 2-inch spherical umbel of rose purple florets. Flowers typically bloom mid to late summer (July-August). Although all parts of this plant have an oniony smell and taste when cut or bruised, this hybrid is considered to be an ornamental and is not used for culinary purposes.

Cultivar name suffers from a minor spelling problem. It is often spelled 'Millennium', but Mark McDonough apparently registered it under the name of 'Millenium'. 2018 Perennial Plant Association's Plant of the Year.

2020 note: Planted 4 years ago, it is a mature plant. Measures 18 inches tall and 24 inches wide. Blooms later than my other garlic. The scapes are slightly taller than the grass like foliage and forms an attractive mounded plant. Unlike some ornnamental garlic that has long scapes coming from a short base.

Average sized tubers. Plants in V2 did not do all that well.

Small tubers

Epic Designs - Assignment Three

Ingame background created with a LOT of help from Simanims, since I fail at ingame quite badly, haha. Who knew that fog emitters could be used for more than just fog?

Anyways, the assignment was fantasy and the editing techniques were clothes drawing and hair drawing. Not more clothes drawing, ahhh! ><

Sim is my character, Natasha, from Portvale. She had a *slight* obsession with unicorns as a child, which still tends to shine through as an adult. So she is very happy with this.

Allium 'Millenium' 8/2021 ornamental onion- (McDonough) ornamental onion, Mature size: 20”, Purple, USDA Hardiness Zone 5-7, Michigan Bloom Week ISO WW31, In Garden Bed G4,4a S4 C3 for 5.1 YEARS (MBulb).

Geranium wlassovianum 'Lakwijk Star' 8/2021 Geranium- () Hardy Geranium, Mature size: 16x24”, dark bluish purple flowers, USDA Hardiness Zone 4, Michigan Bloom Month 6-9, In Garden Bed E1,6,4 for 14 MONTHS (DiggingDog). Planted in 2020.

DiggingDog Nursery:Named for its starry floral display and creator, Jan van Lakwijk, this seldom-offered Geranium is a prismatic delight. The sturdy species hails from the damp grasslands of eastern Siberia, Mongolia, and northeastern China, and was once noted as a choice word to utter during stressful situations. Topping fuzzy 16 in. stems, large saucer-shaped, white-centered, dark bluish purple flowers with raisin-colored veins embellish the rounded, 3 in. wide lobed leaves that sport purplish cocoa-colored markings plus a velvet-soft finish. The unbeatable easy-care clump turns a dusky green once summer arrives, then premiers brilliant red and aubergine shades in autumn.

Blooms June–September

Allium 'Summer Beauty' WW32 Mountain Garlic T1- (Diblik) Mountain Garlic, Mature plant size: 20in., PINK, USDA Hardiness Zone 5-7, Michigan Bloom Week ISO WW31, In Garden Bed T1 for 84 DAYS (Prielipp). Planted in 2022.

Missouri Botanical Garden: Allium lusitanicum, Easily grown in average, dry to medium moisture, well-drained soils in full sun to part shade. Performs well in sandy soils. Add sand to clay soils as needed to improve drainage. Best in full sun, but appreciates some light afternoon shade in hot summer climates. Tolerates a wide range of soils. Although this allium is a true bulb (albeit weakly developed) on a rhizome, it forms a clump which can be lifted and divided somewhat easily in either spring or fall. It will spread in the landscape by short fleshy rhizomes or by self-seeding. Deadheading spent umbels before seed set not only helps control unwanted spread but also helps build a stronger bloom for the following year.

Developed by Roy Diblik of Northwind Perennial Farm.

Cultivar name suffers from a minor spelling problem. It is often spelled 'Millennium', but Mark McDonough apparently registered it under the name of 'Millenium'.
