This cute little narrow gauge (36") two truck Heisler was built by Stearns Manufacturing Co., in Erie, PA, in 1899 as #2 for the West Side Flume & Lumber Co., in Tuolumne, CA. It then survived a series of corporate sales, ending up with Pickering Lumber Corp., as West Side Lumber #2. It was donated to the County of Tuolumne, CA, in 1960 and is on display in the West Side Memorial Park.
West Side Lumber 3-truck Shay #8 was built in 1922 by the Lima Locomotive Works in Lima, OH. It passed through various owners until, in 1966, it was sold to Malarkey Wall in Banks, OR. In 1977, it was leased to the Colorado Central Narrow Gauge Railroad in Silver Plume, CO, and operated on the Georgetown Loop. In 2004, it moved to Georgetown, CO, for display and, four years later, was relocated to the Royal Gorge Route Railroad in Canon City, CO. www.rgusrail.com/cowsl8.html
