Swallowtail - caterpillar on her food plant (burnet) against the setting sun in the haze on a high-altitude meadow.

The light for the caterpillar comes from a reflector and a modest use of LED lamp.

This was the happiest Hippo that I saw in this bloat/herd 😊. These animals are very sociable and have been known to live in groups of over 100. Best to keep a safe distance from them as they are unpredictable creatures, and will attack with little provocation.

The always stylish and eye-catching Baltimore Oriole (m) sits in the sun and sings for the ladies.

When the temperatures started to get cold last fall, the wasps and bees would sleep under the Dahlia petals at night to stay warm. This wasp was just waking up and crawling out of bed when I spotted him. 😄

Thanks so much for your visits. Happy Wing Wednesday!

Look closely. Her coat is made for the autumn leaves and she just blends in perfectly. She wasn't super-bothered by me and my relatively short camera lens. We were both more concerned with the ring-neck parakeets dropping plane-tree fruits onto our heads and making a racket. I ask you, what is London coming to? This fox isn't maybe a completely tame city fox, nor a country bumpkin. She was in Kew Gardens which is a pretty substantial area of real estate as long as you stay away from the very touristy bits.

This male newt is enjoying a relaxed swim during a warm spring afternoon on my North Carolina property. He’s seeking neither food nor a mate, but rather engaging in a few moments of peaceful recreation.

The red and orange colors come from fallen leaves that are now part of the substrate. The blue is reflections of sky piercing the canopy.

Whilst visiting a local farm I was told there were some new born lambs in a barn. Imagine my joy when I walked in the door and saw these little beauties perfectly placed in a shaft of sunlight. What a gift!

Indian Runner Ducks.

Run, Don't Waddle.

Originating in the East Indies, these unique ducks were imported to Britain in the early 1800s, with records of them being shown in Kendal (Cumbria) in 1896.

Another from my testing of my new toy, the Tamron 150-600mm A022 G2 Lens. And it's a monster of a lens, the sharpness that just about won out against the Sigma of the same range and it's broad range makes this Lens particularly versatile. There is a family of Squirrels came regularly come to town and we leave nuts and other seeds out for them, much to this little fella's protesting I caught him the act, well, he or she, retreated back to the nearest tree, chirping and squeaking at me, how dare I!

Well, I hope everyone is well and so as always, thank you! :)

On the streets of Hanoi, we spotted a lady on her scooter with a trailer and basket full of poodles. She has a sign on the canopy above the dogs that reads - cún dễ nuôi không - which, according to Google Translate means - easy to raise dog not for sale?!

Low clouds break and the rising sun illuminates the James's flamingos feeding in the alkaline salt waters of Laguna Lejia.

James's flamingo (Phoenicoparrus jamesi), AKA the puna flamingo, is one of the three species of flamingo found in Chile and of the six species in the world.

Like all flamingos, they are omnivorous filter-feeders, filling their beaks with salt lake water and sifting it out to eat plants, insects, shrimps, and fish.

Laguna Lejía (Bleach Lagoon) is a salt lake in the Atacama desert.

It is located in the Chilean Altiplano of the Antofagasta Region,

100 km (62 mi) south-east of San Pedro de Atacama,

at an altitude of 4325 m (14,200 ft).

It is shallow and has no outlet, currently covering an area of

nearly 2 km² (0.77 sq mi) with an average depth of 1.2 m (4 ft).

While Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (bird flu in plain English) has had devastating effects on bird colonies in general; recent evidence suggests that Northern Gannets can make a recovery and a distinctive black iris highlights the previous infection. This couple (Gannets mate for life) suggest that hope is not lost after all and the species will hopefully have a bright future ahead.
