Worm-eating Warbler ~ (Helmitheros vermivorum)

One of my favorite warblers, but not one I have had much success with in terms of photos. I was happy to catch this one at Fort DeSoto in a little bit of light.

Thanks for visiting!

Goosander / mergus merganser. Straws Bridge, Derbyshire. 02/12/2022.

A braver Goosander who frequented my local lake in early December, 2022. Here she had just popped up close to the bank after hunting for food underwater. She was one of seven birds present for a few days. The majority of these wary birds stayed in the centre of the lake, well away from passers-by.

BEST VIEWED LARGE.!

He says hes taking a break now...looking forward to what he brings next.

Here's one I used my new tool (to be named from Justin at Elumiglow Portland) for. Also a technique discovered by Chris Bauer in a cave on mt st Helens. Great to get to shoot and learn from talented people. This was from night two of my trip to the USA to lightpaint with Chris and others I mentioned in my las pic and will mention again.

I think it's funny that people are terrified of spiders but have no problem letting this cute little guy crawl on them. This is what an Inch Worm looks like up close. Photographed in Maryland.

Heather in bloom at the Worm Stones on Chunal Moor.

So for you folks who like to sleep in, don't worry, you can still get a worm later in the day. Or a meal worm in this case.

this little creature was just chilling on the path near lake Rothsee. The slow worm looks like a snake but is actually a legless lizard.

Die Judengasse war vom Spätmittelalter bis zum Ende des 18. Jahrhunderts das jüdische Ghetto von Worms.

Game day for the Slinky Sam clan! I thought I'd keep going with Slinky Sam ... I've been having fun with this character, though I've modified his appearance.

Worms is a very walkable city unfortunately the day I was there they had a lot of the streets torn up for major repair and even sidewalks were detoured making my google maps routing very difficult, the routing is below for anyone wanting a walking phototour of Worms.

Ludwig Square (Ludwigsplatz) is picture here with its memorial to him, an obelisk and a fountain flanked by lions with a bust in the base of the obelisk of Ludwig IV, Grand Duke of Hesse. Originally this monument was set in a small park. the inscription of the name and date on the memorial. It reads: "Duke of Hesse and in Rhine, supporter of business, industry and art." It could be just me but I think they need to level up this monument it seems to have a slight tilt to the right in the stone work.

Disclaimer: Not try to be realistic in my editing there is enough realism in the world, my style is a mix of painterly and romanticism as well as a work in progress.

The common name of Worm-eating Warbler is misleading since this species seldom if ever eats earthworms, rather being most insectivorous. The plumage is of subdued colours, however the striped head pattern is striking. This individual was seen at the Mayan site of Muyil in the Mexican part of the Yucatan Peninsula, which is at the core of the wintering range.

The Worms Cathedral called St Peter’s or Wormser Dom is one of three imperial cathedrals (Kaiserdome), the others reside in Mainz and Speyer. The Dom is situated on top of the highest point in Worms and the area had been in use since making it into a Roman Catholic bishopric in 614, and was an important palatinate of Charlemagne.

I couldn’t find much information on the Baroque fountain pictured here but its topper depicts a cherub spearing dragons that it stands upon. Dragons are a much copied theme in Worms leading one to think they had a dragon problem in medieval times.

The Worms Cathedral is one of the he finest examples of Romanesque architecture in Germany and with other its churches and buildings is second only to Cologne for Romanesque architecture

One of two Worm Snakes we found under a wooden plank. I was able to catch one ..... Richard held it for me and I held it for him.

A quick trip to Lake Springfield found this male Eastern bluebird (Sialia sialis) offering a worm to a fledgling. We saw the youngster in a tree then the male on the ground then this.

I guess this fellow went beyond what the Cornell Labs says males contribute: "The male Eastern Bluebird displays at his nest cavity to attract a female. He brings nest material to the hole, goes in and out, and waves his wings while perched above it. That is pretty much his contribution to nest building; only the female Eastern Bluebird builds the nest and incubates the eggs."

Thanks so much for the visit!
