The Damrak houses first introduced me to the Dutch word gezellig (meaning cozy or homely) I was always wandering in from the train station after dark and I would constantly stop and stare at these houses thinking it felt like an incandescent oasis in a city of fluorescents, warming the night and the Damrak with its soft glow.
When you walk by during the day usually things are shut tight against the throngs of tourists walking back and forth from the central station but at night when the crowds have dissipated the curtains open and the world seems to be welcome to become a witness to the nocturnal activities of the residents.
The Damrak historically was originally part of the Amstel river below the Dam that gave Amsterdam its name, Rak means a straight stretch or place to gain speed, so the Damrak was actually the straight piece of river below the Dam across the Amstel where sailors would pick up some speed on their home stretch to the port of Amsterdam.
I took this on Sept 10th, 2017 with my D750 and Nikon 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens at 44mm 25 sec f/11 ISO100 processed in LR, PS +Lumenzia, Topaz , Luminar and DXO

Op zaterdag 30 april 2022 vond het stoomfestival plaats tussen Maldegem en Eeklo. Nadat ik in 2019 al aan deze lijn was voor bezoekende stoomlok 29.013. Dit keer was het de beurt aan de prachtige HLD54 5404 van het patrimonium.
Deze NOHAB werd drie keer op de foto gezet, 1 foto kon ook gemaakt worden tijdens een zonet.
Het is exact 14 uur als NMBS patrimonium 5404 bijna eindbestemming Maldegem bereikt heeft.
Heel veel treinen werden er vandaag niet op de foto gezet. In totaal vier leuke en noemenswaardige. Maar het was vooral een gezellige dag. Veel gekletst in de tijd dat er gewacht moest worden. En eindelijk kan deze loc van het lijstje af. Hier de fraaie loc met een Rzepin shuttle naar Tilburg Industrie. De foto geeft wel goed de droogte van de zomer van 2022 weer. En de sproeier rechts doet de rest. Dijkerhoek, 4 september 2022.

In het weekend van 10 en 11 september 2022 waren er werkzaamheden op de Belgische spoorlijn 24 waardoor goederentrein werden omgeleid via Welkenraat en Nederland.
Op 11 september werd erop uit getrokken enkele Belgische omgeleide treinen in Brabant vast te leggen. Ondanks de vele wolken kon zowaar alles in de zon worden gefotografeerd.
In de avond werd in Biezenmortel de laatste Belgische omleider bij daglicht gefotografeerd.
DB Cargo 193 560 "Güter gehören auf die Schiene." met Suzuki autotrein als trein 49572 van Bochum Langerdreer via Emmerich en Roosendaal naar Zeebrugge Zwankendamme, passeert de twee fotografen in Biezenmortel.

The word sail, a monument to poetry, is the name of a steel sculpture by Heinrich Popp.
The sculpture stands on an open field northwest of Sotzweiler, the birthplace of the sculptor and today a district of the Saarland municipality of Tholey in the district of St. Wendel. On an elevation of about 338 metres above NHN, the sculpture represents a landmark visible from afar.
The word sail consists of two sail-shaped triangles, one of which stands on the top and which are twisted against each other. The two halves of the sail, made of stainless steel, are welded together at their highest point. At the same time, the empty space between the two steel plates also has a sail-like shape, depending on the point of view.
The monument, a gift from Heinrich Popp to his home community, was erected in 2005 after several years of planning and execution. The two steel plates were cast in the Dillinger Hütte and rolled to a thickness of 3 cm. The sculpture has a height of 13 meters and a total weight of approx. 30 tons.
The term word sail is also the name of a writing and poetry competition initiated by the artist at participating schools in Saarland.

Das Wortsegel, ein Denkmal für Poesie, ist der Name einer Stahlplastik von Heinrich Popp.
Die Skulptur steht auf offenem Feld nordwestlich von Sotzweiler, dem Geburtsort des Bildhauers und heute ein Ortsteil der saarländischen Gemeinde Tholey im Landkreis St. Wendel. Auf einer Anhöhe von etwa 338 Metern über NHN stellt die Plastik eine weithin sichtbare Landmarke dar.
Das Wortsegel besteht aus zwei jeweils segelförmigen Dreiecken, von denen eins auf der Spitze steht und die gegeneinander verdreht/verspiegelt aufgestellt sind. An ihrer obersten Stelle sind die beiden aus rostendem Stahl erschaffenen Segelhälften miteinander verschweißt. Gleichzeitig besitzt auch der sich zwischen den beiden Stahlplatten befindende leere Raum abhängig vom Betrachtungsstandpunkt ebenfalls eine segelähnliche Form.
Das Denkmal, ein Geschenk von Heinrich Popp an seine Heimatgemeinde, wurde nach mehrjähriger Planungs- und Ausführungsphase 2005 errichtet. Die beiden Stahlplatten wurden in der Dillinger Hütte gegossen und bis auf eine Stärke von 3 cm gewalzt. Die Skulptur hat eine Höhe von 13 Metern und besitzt ein Gesamtgewicht von ca. 30 Tonnen
Der Begriff Wortsegel ist gleichzeitig der Name eines von dem Künstler ins Leben gerufenen Schreib- und Lyrikwettbewerbs an teilnehmenden Schulen im Saarland.

De lijn van Chur naar Disentis wordt gekenmerkt door haar authentieke houten stationsgebouwen. Aangezien in deze tijd van het jaar de zon pas in de loop van de ochtend boven de berg uit komt, moest op RE 1728 worden gewacht, waardoor de geplande foto met het karakteristieke klooster in Disentis als motief helaas verviel.
Pünktlich kwam RhB 613 "Domat/Ems" met haar RE van Disentis naar Scuol-Tarasp voor een korte stop binnen in station Trun.

Een trein die zich maar weinig laat fotograferen is de lege cementtrein van RheinCargo uit Neuwied naar Deuna. Planmatig vertrekt de trein rond 20:00 uit Neuwied om vervolgens via Köln, het Ruhrgebiet en Altenbeken in Deuna te geraken. Doordat de trein zo laat vertrekt uit Neuwied is ze enkel in de late zomerse zonuurtjes te zien op de Rheinstrecke zoals in Hammerstein.
Ook op vrijdagavond 23 juli zou de trein moeten vertrekken vanuit Neuwied en zouden we deze in Hammerstein kunnen vereeuwigen. Tot ongeveer 20:30 was er direct zonlicht aanwezig dus het zou toch nog een redelijke uitdaging worden, want mocht de trein iets later vertrekken was een foto maken al bijna geen optie meer. Na al een bijzonder goed geslaagde avond was het dus nog afwachten of RheinCargo zou passeren en natuurlijk met welke loc dat zou gebeuren. Over het algemeen heeft RheinCargo interessante locomotieven, maar de rode 185'ers mogen ze van mij achterwege houden voor zo'n cementtrein.
Gelukkig zat het allemaal mee deze avond en zodoende kon om 20:24 te Hammerstein in het laatste zonlicht de RheinCargo 187 071 vastgelegd worden met de lege cementtrein die nog geen vijf minuten geleden is vertrokken vanaf Neuwied. We dachten hierna dat het klaar was voor deze dag, maar niet veel later wist DB Cargo ons nog te verrassen met een niet alledaagse 189'er op de Rheinstrecke waarvan de foto later volgt!

Wekelijks rijdt RheinCargo containertreinen tussen de Translog containerterminal in Schweinfurt en de CTS containerterminal in Köln Niehl.
Op 2 september 2020 reed de trein met de 187 076, en kon vlak nadat een behoorlijke wolk net voorbij getrokken was als trein 52549 in Gemünden am Main gefotografeerd worden.
Van 6 tot en met 13 september werd in Beekbergen nog een week van de zomervakantie doorgebracht. Tijdens het verblijf in Beekbergen vond op 7 en 8 september het festival Terug naar Toen van de VSM plaats. Op beide dagen werden meerdere treinen tijdens dit festival op de foto gezet.
De zaterdagmorgen begon erg mistig. Hierdoor konden er sfeervolle foto's worden gemaakt. Bij de overweg aan de Ruggeweg was de mist niet zo dik als op andere plekken langs de lijn. Tevens scheen de zon op deze locatie flets door de mist heen. Op de vroege zaterdagmorgen is locomotief 41 241 van de VSM met de eerste goederentrein onderweg naar Beekbergen.

Very slow day at Coyote Hills, but this beautiful 'museum' of Cedar Waxwings saved the day. I love that word to describe them.

For Macro Mondays - Sphere

This is a glass sphere / bubble in the center of one of my paperweights. The full size of the paper weight measure 3". This center sphere / bubble is less than a half inch in diameter. HMM, everyone ! !
Dit weekend werd er naar Oostenrijk gereden om er even een weekend tussenuit te zijn. Het stond niet in het teken om te gaan hobbyen, maar waar nodig werden daar toch een aantal minuten aan gespendeerd.
In de ochtend van 16 april kon zo de ÖBB 2070 028 worden gefotografeerd welke trein 1829 (Trento - Innsbruck) afrangeerde.

The ruddy turnstone is a small wading bird, one of two species of turnstone in the genus Arenaria. The scientific name is from Latin. The genus name arenaria derives from arenarius, "inhabiting sand, from arena, "sand". The specific interpres means "messenger"; when visiting Gotland in 1741, Linnaeus thought that the Swedish word Tolk "interpreter" applied to this species, but in the local dialect the word means "legs" and is used for the redshank.
It is now classified in the sandpiper family Scolopacidae but was formerly sometimes placed in the plover family Charadriidae. It is a highly migratory bird, breeding in northern parts of Eurasia and North America and flying south to winter on coastlines almost worldwide. It is the only species of turnstone in much of its range and is often known simply as turnstone.

EGP rijdt bijna dagelijks autotreinen in gesloten ARS Altmann-wagens tussen München-Milbertshofen en Bremerhaven Kaiserhafen. De treinen vervoeren de wat duurdere automerken vanaf de fabriek in Zuid-Duitsland naar de havens aan de Noordzee. Sinds de indienststelling van de Smartron bij EGP is dit type locomotief relatief het vaakst aan te treffen voor deze treinen.
Op 26 juli 2019 kon de 193 102, nog met Smartron-stickers ipv EGP-stickers, worden vastgelegd voor een lege autotrein Bremerhaven-München Milbertshofen. De trein kon op het heetste moment de dag worden vastgelegd in het Haunetal nabij het dorpje Odensachsen.

Butterfly pea flower comes from a plant called clitoria ternatea that's native to Southeast Asia. The flowers are deep blue in color with a tinge of purple. The dried flowers are popular in Southeast Asia to color food like rice and it's also brewed in water to make a blue-colored tea. A drop of Lemon juice will turn Blue in Purple.
