The lighthouse was built in 1841, but the station dates to 1714 and there is evidence that a private lighthouse existed on this site in the 1660's. The octagonal masonry tower is 42 feet tall and is attached to a 1970's building that served as a lighthouse control site, but is now used to monitor helicopter traffic. The original first order beehive Fresnel lens remains in use, and the light signal is a white or red flash, depending on direction, every 5 seconds. There are 5 keeper's houses that are now available for rental.
Located on the point of St. Ann's Head in Pembrokeshire National Park, marking the entrance into Milford Haven.
There is a nearby "High" lighthouse, long since abandoned, that has the lantern room removed and replaced with an observation room that was used to monitor for German U-boats during WWII.
The building is now a B and B.
I'm getting ready to pack the Winter Light Spectacular photos into my archives; it looks like I won't be returning this year. The next big photo event will be the Otter Bowl, in which river otters predict the outcome of a game that humans play.

WOODSTOCK, Ill. (WLS) -- At least 32 horses were killed in a barn fire in northwest suburban Woodstock.
The fire, which reportedly broke out just before 11 p.m. Saturday, happened at Valley View Acres Horse Stables in the 5100-block of Mt. Thabor Road.
Owner Amber Bauman said while she and her husband were at an awards banquet for the farm, her son was awakened by a crackling sound from the stable area.
"Got the call from my oldest son, it's every barn owner's worst thing you could ever hear," Bauman said.
One of the horses that died in the massive blaze was Bauman's own horse, Eve, who she has been riding her for years.
"When I was a 10-year-old little girl I said on New Year's Eve, 'I'm going to buy that horse,' and her name was Eve and I bought her," Bauman said.
Of 37 horses believed to have been in the stable, five were rescued by her son and another worker, meaning that 32 horses were killed in the fire, she said. The stable, which is a breeding farm for many award-winning thoroughbreds, may face $1 million in damage.
Investigators are working to figure out the cause of the fire, which is still burning. Fire crews said a lack of hydrants in the area made the blaze harder to fight, requiring 27 other fire departments on-scene.
"We're tough, we stick together, it'll get there, we're all going to stick together because we're all family," said Leah Sweetman, who worked in the barn. "Eventually we'll have our time to mourn."
Sweetman's horse, Odie, did not make it out alive.
"He was the type of horse you could put anybody on. He was just such a sweetheart," she said.
A firefighter suffered a minor injury, but no other injuries were reported.

Designed by James Walker and built in 1832. The 122 foot tall round stone tower is attached to a one story keeper's house which is available for rental. The fog signal building with its two huge diaphone horns, now inactive, is in the foreground. The light signal is 2 white or red flashes, depending on direction, separated by 3.7 seconds, every 15 seconds.
Located about 3 miles west of Llannit Major near St. Donats and marks the narrower part of the Bristol Channel leading into Cardiff, Wales and Bristol, England.

Built in 1838. The round, castellated tower is built in 3 sections, is 62 feet tall, and painted white with black stripes The light signal is a white flash every 5 seconds. The inscription on the lighthouse tower reads "No Passage Landward" indicating it is not safe to try and pass between the lighthouse and the shore.
Located on the northeast corner of the Isle of Anglesey marking the north entrance to Menai Strait, the body of shallow water separating the Isle of Anglesey from the mainland.
I'm up late, cleaning the kitchen, and just sat down to see if I could catch a friend on Google Talk.
I hadn't even been started good and I was sweating like crazy. A by-product of my weight, I guess. Either that or my thick crazy hair.

The Malabar Trogon (Harpactes fasciatus) is a species of bird in the trogon family. It is found in the forests of Sri Lanka and peninsular India. In India it is mainly found in the Western Ghats, hill forests of central India and in parts of the Eastern Ghats. They are insectivorous and although not migratory they may make seasonal movements in the hill regions.
Many S-Bahn stations in Hamburg never had a black-Helvetica-on-white signpost with a blue border.In Hamburg, the transition from the previous Futura signs to the current signage system using Deutsche Bahn’s own typeface WLS is almost completed now. Maybe this one will be lasting a bit longer. Deutsche Bahn considers to build a new station here that is to take over the function of Hamburg Altona as a railway station for regional and long distance trains.
This was taken this evening when we walked the dogs before dinner. It was a beautiful day in Rotterdam and I was also happy to be wearing the new PINK t-shirt that I bought at the concert last night!
You see, in 2009 I saw Pink in concert for the first time. I was SO excited as I've not been to many concerts. This was when I was at my highest weight, so I was feeling pretty miserable physically (oh hell, and mentally too!). When we got to the t-shirt stand and I was told that the largest size they had was an XL, my heart sank. I probably would have needed at least a 3x-4x at that time. I tried to try it on but when I put my arms into the body I knew that it was nowhere wide enough, but I bought it anyway in hopes that one day it would fit and I'd be able to wear it.
It took 3 years for me to be able to wear that shirt. I wrote about it on May 1, 2012 on my blog, which was almost 5 months after my WLS. It was a big NSV (non-scale victory) for me to finally be able to wear that t-shirt comfortably. www.breigh.com/wordpress/archives/8212
Last night at the concert I wasn't sure what size t-shirt to get, but I was thrilled knowing I'd be able to walk away with one and wear it right away. I decided to get a large to be safe, and went to the bathroom in the stadium to try it on. I went straight back to the booth to exchange it for a medium as the large was way too big. I couldn't believe it.
I wish I could have gone back in time and told that sad, embarrassed girl I was at the 2009 concert just how much better life will be for her one day.
