Wicked Wisdom at The Myth

Wicked Wisdom at The Myth

Ready for a story? Then I'll begin...

So on too many occasions (for my liking) my beloved colleagues have been challenging my little factoids of wisdom. So over a fry-up when they argued that I was talking bollocks about Dyslexics using translucent sheets of plastic to help them read I proposed that we tally up these occurrences when the actual answer is discovered.

Thus "The Wisdom Game (first to 7)" began.

I was right (of course) about the dyslexic thing but since then things have taken a turn for the worse. More specifically the following has happened:

1. I can't speak Italian. This stems from my assumption that if I don't know whether or not I can do something then I begin with the belief that I am awesome at it. In this case I wasn't. 1-1.

2. The French are not the opposite of the Americans. Now obviously this isn't true but merely a flippant comment made by myself for humorous purposes during a lull at work. However one of the less sporting of my colleagues seized this opportunity to take the lead in the game. Something I feel I may have to contest soon... maybe some form of panel will be needed. 1-2.

3. Dogs do sometimes blink. I read somewhere they don't. I was wrong. I blame the internet. 1-3.

Stay posted for future score updates. I'm pretty confident I can beat "The World" at this one if I just regulate what I say a little. *fingers crossed.

An old print set.

The Wisdom Path (formerly known as the Heart Sutra Inscription) traces a series of 38 wooden steles (upright monuments containing verses from the centuries-old Heart Sutra, one of the world’s best-known prayers revered by Confucians, Buddhists and Taoists alike.

These steles display the Chinese version of the prayer, based on the calligraphy of famous contemporary scholar Professor Jao Ssung-l, and are arranged in a pattern, which represents infinity.

Located in the hills of Ngong Ping a short walk from the Big Buddha and Po Lin Monastery, the Wisdom Path offers a view of the South China Sea.

This pic was taken when sun was pretty bright. It was early morning in Liverpool. Again I used simple tricks of high shutter speed and low aperture to get this effect.

Taniyama Fudosan-“The Shinto, Buddhist and Shugendo practice of misogi or spiritual cleansing through standing under a waterfall, or dousing oneself with buckets of bracingly cold water, derives from the deep desire to be united with the clarity and purity of water. Water by its very nature changes form according to the container in which it is placed. This quality suggested the Buddhist wisdom of the emptiness of form, and the social value of flexibility and a situational ethic over an unchanging stance for all occasions.”

We found this temple about a 30 minute walk from our place in Parvathagiri village in AP, India. The local toddy tappers told us it was where they often congregrated... we went looking for some wisdom and toddy too.

The teacher who is indeed wise does not bid you to enter the house of his wisdom but rather leads you to the threshold of your mind.

The inscription beneath the Wisdom statue

New them at Take a Pic is: Wisdom. The elephant is the symbol of strength, wisdom, prosperity and luck.

In J. C. Coopers's An Illustrated Encyclopedia of Traditional Symbols 2, the author notes that hand signs include the following symbolic meanings:

Hand on Breast—submission and the attitude of a servant or slave

Crossed at wrist (X) — binding or being bound

Hand on neck—sacrifice

Clenched fist—threat, aggression

Raised hand—adoration, worship, horror, amazement

Both hands raised, palm outward—weakness, supplication, acknowledgment, adoration, admiration

Raised to head—thought, care, intellect, wisdom

Taken at a safari park in Kent, UK this adult elephant seemed intrigued with the growing crowds (or it was feeding time) - cheating slightly taking the photo

at a safari park and although it cannot compare to their wild habit in any way they seemed well looked after.
